Did you run X config

It is one of the steps in the Handbook

You can fake a .Xauthority and get rid of the message by doing
  touch .Xauthority
in your home directory (and in roots home)

you have many errors, i don't understand, i think that you should
choose a interface, for example gnome, xfce4, kde..., i recomend to
read xrog, and desktop enviroments, check it:

http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/x11.html

http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/x11-wm.html

I remember when i started to use freebsd i was nervious, but i read
the handbook and all was easy, do you want to install freebsd and to
use freebsd?, read and try to do it

That message is _not_ in relation to the problems you're
experiencing.

Depending on how you setup X (full autodetecion, no config
file, HAL and DBOS -or- xorg.conf file with proper settings),
you should make sure everything is in place.

See chapter 6.4 of the FreeBSD Handbook:
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/handbook/x-config.html

For the Synaptics touchpad:
http://wiki.freebsd.org/SynapticsTouchpad

The (missing) presence of the X authority file has
nothing to do with keyboard or mouse problems.

DRI-Problem with X on Thinpad T21 (was: "Re: Blank screen after using X")

2006-11-16 Thread Christian Walther

Hi there,

I poked around a bit, changing several settings and the modules to be
loaded in xorg.conf. It turns out that the error is caused by DRI. I'm
pretty sure I tried this before...
So, disabling DRI by commenting out the module in xorg.conf makes X
behave correctly, I can start and stop it without any problems.

But of course I would like to use DRI on my Laptop, should give a
speed bump, especially since I'm interested in using blender.

So, is there anybody out there who could give some advice of what to do?
I changed my kernel configuration so that drm and savagedrm are part
of it, no need for a module. But this doesn't anything, too (didn't
expect it to change anything, but anyway, it was worth a try...)

Regards
Christian

They might regarding suspend/resume video, but no, not for this one ..

Sorry, I was mistaken .. I've still got this problem too. Once I got
suspend/resume going I hadn't quit X in more than a month. Tonight I
did, to check, and there was the blank screen again.

So I resorted to my old workaround, which may also work for you; I just
type 'fixme' at the unseen vty prompt:

t23# cat ~/bin/fixme
#!/bin/sh
# strangely enough, this invalid mode restores vttyX with the error message:
# vidcontrol: cannot activate raster display: Inappropriate ioctl for device
vidcontrol VESA_800x600

Bizarre, but the only way I found worked, by accident. Valid vidcontrol
commands failed to achieve this for me, but I know very little magic ..

Earlier I'd found that setting one vty with 'vidcontrol VGA_80x30'
before starting X helped if I switched back to that, but only running
'fixme' saved me tonight. It's evil, but sure beats rebooting ..

If you have access to a windows box to burn the floppies and a USB
floppy drive, or Windows on the T23, you're set. I have neither yet.

Mailed separately. At least X hasn't crashed on me yet with that conf.

the video card is a silicon motion, but the driver doesnt work,
so i used a generic VGA.

I gave up on trying to get this driver working. After tons of patches

problem with X in a laptop

hi,

im having problems configuring the X window system in a IBM
thinkpad laptop.
The servers starts ok, but the problem is that it doesnt fit the

im gonna explain it with a picture:

 |   | <== size of the X's screen
 | |---| |
 |-|

the video card is a silicon motion, but the driver doesnt work,
so i used a generic VGA.
Now im using FreeBSD 5.3 with Xorg, but before i was using
debian with XF86 and i had the same problem, but i fixed it
startingthe X server with the "-dpi 100" but this now doesnt
work.
i also have used the xvfb server, but with this server doesnt
work.

any idea is welcome.
thanks in advance.

Problem with X on MGA

2003-09-29 Thread Frank Altpeter

Hi there,

since my last XFree update, i get strange errors on startup:

Sep 29 16:47:06 bsd-fa kernel: agp0: binding memory at bad offset 0
Sep 29 16:47:06 bsd-fa kernel: error: [drm:mga_unlock] *ERROR* Process 2927 using
kernel context 0

The wdm does serve fine ... the first time. After logout, the system
does crash and reboot without any further notice or error.

The system is a FreeBSD 5.1-CURRENT and the card is
drm0:

I'm not really sure if it's a kernel problem or an X driver problem
or a wdm problem, so i hope to get some hints here :)

With kind regards,

Frank Altpeter

Problem with X-windows

2003-03-28 Thread Zahirul Haque
Hello:
I've been trying to install freeBSD 5.0.
I tried so many times to run x-windows
but no luck.
Every time I tried to configure XFree86, I got

The XFree86 configuration process seems to have

As video card I'm using S3 Virge gx2

I specified everything correctly, but always got

Please help me. I got to make it working.

I have recently been messing around with fonts, but am no expert.

Take at xfree86.org's documents. There's a one entitled 'fonts in
xfree86'. It recommends ordering your font paths in XF86Config-4 with
scalable fonts before bitmap fonts. Xfree86 may perform 2 passes to
match a font name. The first for an exact match, the second for a
best match. Re-ordering you font paths will influence the font
selected.
