Subject: Adding a Firewire port

Hi all,
I'm recording with my Powerbook and a MOTU 828 audio interface. I am
also using a firewire hard drive to write tracks to.
My question has to do with adding a firewire port. I only have one on
my Powerbook, and was previously using the built-in hub port on the
firewire hard drive case. That port failed last night, and no longer is
recognized by my Powerbook.
Should I buy a Firewire hub? Or, should I buy a PC Card with a Firewire
port?
I'm interested in bandwidth problems that may happen by having an 828
and a hard drive on the same firewire bus. Is it better to use a PC
Card or a hub?
Mark
Hi Mark,
the the only thing I can tell you is this: I have a Pismo with both OS 9.2 and OS
X an 828 MkI and a VST PCMIA firewire card. OS 9 cannot see the MOTU on the
cardbus port, only on the built in firewire ports while OS X accepts it on both,
and it works like a charm. My drives and CDRW are recognized everywhere by both
OS's. Hope this helps.
Simon
