Hi Lori,

Ummm...No, I couldn't really do that. To begin with my actual voice is
terrible. Kind of like a teenager going through puberty where it
cracks and doesn't know if it wants to be high or low. Secondly, and
more importantly, I have muscle/nerve damage to my face so it makes it
very difficult at times to talk and eat, because I don't have full
muscle control over my mouth. As a result I tend to mumble words or
slur them because I'm unable to make my mouth properly form the words.
That's why I don't use my own voice for games etc. I will say its
really frustrating for me to try and talk on the phone, and have a
client, friend, etc ask me to try and repete something because I just
can't say what I want to say too clearly.

Re: [Audyssey] Idea for Mota

2011-05-04 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,

AhNo. I'm definitely not from Boston or any New England city or
state. I'm an Ohio boy through and through. So I have a typical Mid
Western American accent if you want to call it that. That is to say I
don't have any accent at all. I also don't use slang southern or
otherwise. As an educated person I have always tried to avoid various
slang like warsh instead of wash, y'all instead of everyone, crick
instead of creek, and so on. I for the most part use textbook American
English rather than fall back on the back country slang my southern
relatives use. Sometimes I think they are speaking another language.
Imagine listening to my southern relatives when they might say
something like, "How's about y'all go down to the crick and catch us
some feesh for dinner?"I'm like what is feesh? What is a crick?

You take my point. I understand them quite clearly having grown up
hearing it all my life, but all the same I've definitely tried not to
copy their bad English or use their particular grammar and slang. So
when I learned proper English in school I always did my best to
overcome the southern slang I grew up with and learned how to speak
properly. I always felt, even when I was young, an employer or anyone
else would respect me if i didn't sound like a back country hick, and
sounded like a well educated American from the Mid West. So anyway I
don't have a Boston accent, or any accent at all.

Cheers!

Hi Dark,

Yeah, I do pretty much the same thing when reading e-mails. Since I
don't know what someone souhnds like I tend to associate them with the
voice of some film star, movie character, etc as well. However, as
this topic proves that can be as far from the truth as possible.

As for my own voice I manage. I've learned over the years if I want to
be pretty clear to my audience, such as speaking to a client over the
phone, I will talk a bit slower than usual in order to make my words
clear and not slur them. Like a person who stutters I have to
consciously think about how to say some words in order to make them
loud and clear enough to be understood without repeating them. If i
don't my words will come out with a little lisp or slurring. I might
be able to do a podcast or something, but doing voice overs for menus,
status reports, i don't think would sound too good in a game.

On 5/3/11, dark wrote:

Ouch Tom.

i'm really sorry to here this, and actually it's a major surprise.

I tend to automatically imagine people's voices when i read in a none

way especially if they are a character in a story or if I've not
actually
heard their voice before, and in my head you actually sound pretty much
like
kelsy gramma (possibly mangled spelling), the chap who played Frazier,
beast

in the x men films, side show bob in the simpsons etc.

So hereing this makes for quite an odd disparity really, though sinse
I've
not heard your voice in person I'll go on believing you sound like
frazier

anyway ;D.

All the best,

Hi Thomas,
I know what you mean about your voice. Don't know if you have had chance
to play River Raiders, but I'm not too impressed with my vocal
performance either. I'm 23 years old and I still think I sound much like
a 15 year old. Add to that I'm from the UK, so my voice sounds much out

because of my broad yorkshire accent. Smiles.

Hi Lori,

Ummm...No, I couldn't really do that. To begin with my actual voice is
terrible. Kind of like a teenager going through puberty where it

more importantly, I have muscle/nerve damage to my face so it makes it
very difficult at times to talk and eat, because I don't have full

Actually, that's a point.

i've been reading mails from the chap for about five years now, but never
heard his voice.

I've heard phil, che and jim on interviews, but not tom? maybe he's
really a growling demon from the pits of hades and doesn't want us to know
it, that would also explain his intensive knolidge of griek
mythology, - though maybe less so his liking for startrek, starwars and
wrestling, unless the tv reception in hades is pretty good ;D.

Eitherway, I agree, it'd be rather nice to here his voice in the game.

Re: [Audyssey] Idea for Mota

2011-05-03 Thread Lori Duncan
Hi is this a video game you did the voice for? I too hate my accent, I'm
from Scotland uk, but luckily for me my accent isn't broad scotish, I just
sound very shy and sometimes mix up what I'm trying to say and have to get
my tongue out of a tangle Don't worry Thom, you should hear what I
sound like at the moment, my throat is sore and am coughing my brains out!

Hi Thomas,
I know what you mean about your voice. Don't know if you have had chance
to play River Raiders, but I'm not too impressed with my vocal performance
either. I'm 23 years old and I still think I sound much like a 15 year
old. Add to that I'm from the UK, so my voice sounds much out of sync with
the rest of the available audiogames out there simply because of my broad
yorkshire accent. Smiles.

Regards,
Damien.

Mota now, what about the real Tom? Would be interesting to know what he
sounds like, couldn't you introduce a talking statue with your voice
Tom?
