I'm not seeing that link at all where you describe it. Is this a settings
issue?

Nope. That one gets you to the list of newly updated threads, but not to the
new posts in a thread.

Here is a "for example". I just pressed the new posts link and among the
threads it listed the Swamp thread. This is what that thread shows.
Swamp, zombie fps by Aprone
by Aprone ( Pages 1 2 3 … 43 New posts )
The New posts link following the page numbers is the one that will take me
directly to the first new post someone has written since the last time I
checked it.

Christopher, I have no idea why the new posts link behaved that way. We
must be referring to different links, because that is not how it works for
me. When I press the link it would take me directly to post 1055 in the
situation you described. I think you might have been once again clicking
the new posts link that's along the top menu instead of the one that's
listed after the author of each thread, and the page numbers.

Re: [Audyssey] follow-up to audiogames.net

2011-12-23 Thread dark
Chris, firstly I'd recommend setting the forum to display the max amount of
posts per page, ie 75.

New posts do have the word "new on them" so if Jaws has a feature where you
can find text you could always use it, but myself I just go to the edit area
in the quick reply box at the bottom then tab back to my own last post or
the last one I read.

I don't believe I've ever seen a Pun bb system with the ability to display
only certain posts and not others.

And there I'm not talking about audiogames.net specifically, but about the
bb software that has been used.

Beware the grue!

Dark.

[Audyssey] follow-up to audiogames.net

2011-12-23 Thread Christopher Bartlett
The new posts link is a duplication of the new link that is in the top menu,
that is, it shows posts with new replies, but it does not show only the
replies that have been posted since last one logged in. It is this latter
functionality that I am trying to find in audiogames.net.

As an example, I just logged in and found that the Swamp topic had new
replies. There were at the time of writing 1061 replies to this topic of
which I'd read 1,055. Clicking the new posts link just repeated the list of
topics with new messages in them. I had to manually go to page 22 (I have
the board set to show 50 posts per page), and then use heading navigation to
go to 1,056 and begin reading. This means I have to remember for topics in
which I'm interested what the last message number I read was, which is
tedious.

There are other forum software packages that do this quite nicely, as the
example on http://www.burningwheel.org demonstrates. I'm not suggesting
that audiogames.net change posting software at this date, but the feature
does exist in other software, and I wonder if it can be enabled in the one
we're using, or if I am being really dense, though I looked all over the
topic page for other new links and found nothing promising.
