Re: JPMS Projects?

2021-03-17 Thread Daniel Widdis
Thanks for your clarifications.

Regarding "Apache" = "Quality", I'd be careful. Apache asserts [1] a maxim of
"Community over code". While certainly a broad community inevitably leads to
better code, and Apache is a good starting point, given the specificity of your
request I might start there but not exclude other established projects (not
random code) which follow many of the same principles.

I do hope those on this list are aware of some projects they can recommend to
you!

As for the technical specifications, I'd also recommend you'd separate those
out as well. Some of your concerns seem to deal with native code access which
seems a separate issue than modular design of code. I have also been looking
around for good Panama/FMA examples and haven't seen anything non-trivial yet.
But even those can be done with/without the Java Module System (JPMS).

Looking forward to any other replies with interest.

Dan

I would prefer to examine a project that has a formal release process and
an active community. So a TLP or incubating project would be great. In
this case I was equating "Apache" = "Quality" :)

I'm not so interested in random code on the Internet that just happens to
be Apache licensed :)

Is there a particular use case you are interested in?

I am seriously looking at *redesigning* our JDK8 Library using Java Modules
leveraging JDK16+/Panama/FMA and completely replacing the need for Unsafe,
etc. (Not just adapting our JDK8 code to run on JDK9+ and accessing Java
internals using JVM args.)

This is a major undertaking so being able to look at projects that have
already gone through that process would be helpful.

Thank you,

Lee.

Re: [VOTE] Apache Pinot (incubating) 0.7.0 RC1

2021-03-17 Thread Felix Cheung
It is unclear the guidance on this but since it is impossible remove from
maven

https://repository.apache.org/#nexus-search;classname~Pinot

Once it is published, I’d suggest we update all the links and git hash and
still proceed to vote on this. If there is any issue we should vote on
another release with fix ASAP. Otherwise hopefully IPMC can continue to
sign off on this release.

Re: [VOTE] Retire BlueMarlin project from Incubator

2021-03-17 Thread Craig Russell
Hi,

Just one observation which might be useful.

The usual case for a large project being brought in is to leave the existing
copyright headers in place and then change them once the code is in the Apache
repository. Then it is a bit easier to see which files were being donated with
a grant and which files were third party files that need to be segregated into
a different part of the repository so they can be annotated with a different
license.

It is my understanding that the copyright/license headers were modified before
moving to Apache repository, so there needs to be special care to review all
the files to be sure they now have the correct headers.

Has the BlueMarlin team run the Release Audit Tool (rat) on the code yet?

Regards,
Craig

 Hi,

I think it’s important to keep the state on dev mailing list (publicly).

The key think while in the incubator is to build/grow up the community.

Re: JPMS Projects?

2021-03-17 Thread Daniel B. Widdis
Can you clarify what you mean by an "Apache Java project"?
 - A TLP?
 - An incubating project?
 - A project anywhere that is released under the Apache license?

There's actually no need to "migrate code" in many cases, just add some
files. Is there a particular use case you are interested in?

JPMS Projects?

Folks,
Is anyone aware of an Apache Java project that has actually migrated their
code from Java 8 to the Java Platform Module System (JPMS)?

Thanks,
Lee.

Re: [VOTE] Apache Pinot (incubating) 0.7.0 RC1

2021-03-17 Thread kishore g
Apologies for the mistake. We have done multiple releases until now and
this is the first time we missed the step to get the approval from IPMC was
missed before making the release.

What is the right thing to do at this point? Should we cut another release
or can we go ahead with this and ensure that this does not happen again.

thanks,
Kishore G

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache MXNet (incubating) version 2.0.0.rc3

2021-03-17 Thread Sheng Zha
Thanks for the votes. We appreciate the help from the community. This vote is
now only one binding vote short from passing.

For the notice dates for TVM, since we haven't updated the TVM dependency in
2021 yet, the version of TVM's notice we included still says 2020. In this
case, should we still update the notice year for TVM or should we leave as is?

Best,
Sheng

Unfortunately this isn’t the right process for a podling release.

As the mentor, I am sorry to see the release is not up to the standard
upheld by previous releases.

I think this release violates the Apache release policy because it didn’t get
the approvals from IPMC but was released actually (in both dist.a.o and GitHub).

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache Doris 0.14.0-incubating-rc02

2021-03-17 Thread kezhenxu94@apache
You have to include a DISCLAIMER file in the release because Doris is still in
incubator.

If you have license issues, you can have DISCLAIMER-WIP so that IPMC members
won’t -1 when voting a release (WIP indicates that you’re resolving the
problem), but if you have resolved the license issues, you MUST have a
DISCLAIMER file in it, at this time, IPMC members will vote -1 when they find
license issues.

Re:Re: [VOTE] Release Apache Doris 0.14.0-incubating-rc02

2021-03-17 Thread 陈明雨
Hi Juan, Williem and Zhiyuan:

Thank for your review.

But why do we still need to keep DISCLAIMER-WIP in the code base?

We had some LICENSE issues in version 0.12, so we declared these issues in
DISCLAIMER-WIP.

These license issues have been resolved in version 0.13, so we have removed
DISCLAIMER-WIP in version 0.13.
