Re: [gentoo-amd64] What do I do at livecd root #-

2005-06-07 Thread Jordi Molina
I recommend you:
1. Reading the entire 2005.0 Handbook for amd64
2. Proceed with installation

Inverting these steps can leave you blocked at some point.

Re: [gentoo-amd64] Video server for mac clients

2005-09-19 Thread Jordi Molina
Hi list,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that he wants to mount the remote
server as local to mount/edit the videos stored on it.

In that case, even using the fastest protocol (IMO, choosing btween
AT, SMB or NFS, it's NFS) the delay on performance will be
"noticeable", just say it on this way, it won't be the same than doing
a RAID0 on the macs and editing the files from there.

But, if you mean that you'll use the amd64 as a fileserver, or just to
store the originals and the produced masters, i recommend you using
NFS.

Hope it helps a little bit :)

Long time since I don't use a Matrox, maybe this link still helps:

Re: [gentoo-amd64] Cedega running programs on fat32 partition

2006-01-11 Thread Jordi Molina
Hi Brett,

Normally, as said by transgaming support and in the FAQs for cedega,
you can have issues running games from a non ext/reiserfs partition.

I can tell you from my experience that most of the games fails to run
in cedega when running them from a fat32/ntfs volume.

What I do now is run only in windows (so have only installed in
fat32/ntfs) the games that can only run in windows (luckily i have
only one: Lineage2) and leave the rest installed through cedega. Is
easier for me and I know I only need windows for one thing.

Hope it helps

Jordi

hello,

I installed gentoo from another livecd and then compiled the kernel
and the initrd image to support sata_nv.

It boots fine for me. Forget about using the nvraid, is not hardware,
so if you need it, go sw raid or buy a decent RAID card.

Hi Jamie, I just wake up so maybe I will say something not related,
just hit me if I'm wrong.

try genkernel --menuconfig --no-clean all

the --menuconfig parameter allows you to set up the kernel as you wish
with the classical menuconfig text interface. The --no-clean just
keeps your current config.

have a look here for more info -> http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/genkernel.xml
