Do you have the option to run nfsv4? It uses only port tcp-2049. That way you
don't need portmapper (port 111), lockmgr, status, or mountd.

[gentoo-user] Slideshow screensaver with multiple monitors

2007-07-13 Thread Hamie
Hi.

Has anyone managed to get the screensaver (KDE) when in slideshow with photos
to display a whole photo per monitor, rather than trying to display a single
photo spread out over multiple monitors?

Other than that it works fine... But since my monitors are different sizes &
dpi it would look a great deal better if each screen had its own photo (This
is running X in either real xinerama, or pseudo xinerama modes).

TIA
  Hamish.

Hey thanks I'd never heard of it I'll give it a go

The same thing happens on my laptop as well (Thinkpad Z61m, core2Duo). The
Gentoo boot disks just don't have the drivers. I had to boot a Knoppix disk,
install that, then do gentoo as a chroot... Which was a REAL nightmare
because the knoppix was 32bit & I wanted a 64-bit install (It took messing
around with a kernel from a ~amd64 desktop manually copied over as well
before I could get gentoo installed correctly).

I'd hate to have to try & rebuild...

Not very useful... It's a bit chicken & egg...

So they want people to register for notification of drivers for a printer they
already own... But most Linux users won't buy a printer unless it has drivers
already. And the message I got from it was that they just want your email
address incase they may do something in the future...

I didn't see anywhere to put any feedback either...

If you have anything up to X600 (Maybe even X700) graphics (basically 9600 on
PCIe) then the open source drivers should work fine... Mine is an X1400
sadly, so I don't even get LCD native resolution without the damned ATI
drivers (Because it's flakey as hell with their DRI, and suspend to RAM
doesn't work... Still... So why even bother).

Hmm... My ati-drivers actually crashes the XServer completely. And (Usually)
restarts (Sometimes kdm just gives up as well).

I did attempt to raise a support request about it... And got an email back
from ATI/AMD saying I shuld be thankful for what they've given me & not to
bother them about it... Not sure why they even bother to solicit feedback
myself...

Damn, that's a good price...

I have a LaserJet 2600N (Network connected), which works like a charm. It
needed a custom config file from the net somewhere, but it's a cracker apart
from that (Except the envelope feed. You have to remove the paper to feed an
envelope else you get a piece of paper infront of the envelope & the printing
goes on the paper instead.

I also have a PSC1210. All-in-one job. I've had one problem with that under an
older kernel that wouldn't create the device nodes properly (Umm... Fro
memory the nodes were there, but you couldn't write to them).
