Debian wheezy at your service, NOT. Well, actually you are not up-to-date at all - this is because you choose to run the oldstable Debian release. This also means you're missing most of the bug fixes that have happened in 2.8 since 2.8.2 has been released (minus some security fixes, maybe). > Did this train lose its conductor a few stops back? Your browser will allow you to put downloads anywhere, although it might have been set up (or you might have set it up) to put downloaded files into a specific directory without asking. I'm pretty sure you are referring to the fact that the GIMP installer won't let you choose where to install GIMP. It does this if it detects that GIMP is already installed on your system, and then uses the same directory. -- Regards, Michael GPG: 96A8 B38A 728A 577D 724D 60E5 F855 53EC B36D 4CDD ___ gimp-user-list mailing list List address:gimp-user-list@gnome.org List membership: https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list List archives: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-user-list

Re: [Gimp-user] No Filenames Recognized By Gimp
Am 28.10.2016 um 05:57 schrieb Daniel Banks: > Gimp will not open any file type other than it's own native format. Most common reason for this not-that-common issue: the folders to plug-ins are pointing to directories where there are no plug-ins. No plug-ins = no support for anything but XCF, and also a lot of other menu entries missing. Remedy: Go to GIMP's preferences and see what folders are specified there, then go to your file system and check whether GIMP is actually installed there, and if not, adjust the folders in the preferences. Technical background for that reason, and for why it isn't common in general: For this issue to happen, the following two conditions have to be met: 1. the plug-ins folders had been changed once 2. the current location where GIMP is installed is different to the or a previous one If either one is not met, then GIMP would find its plug-ins. -- Regards, Michael GPG: 96A8 B38A 728A 577D 724D 60E5 F855 53EC B36D 4CDD ___ gimp-user-list mailing list List address:gimp-user-list@gnome.org List membership: https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list List archives: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-user-list

No, this is not what you were informed about. The width and height of the files in pixels was asked for because the error message on export was very specifically pointing that out to be an issue. A test performed to check if this size might not matter ("Does not seem to matter (it is any tif file)"), with a much smaller file (in terms of width and height, in pixels), did prove that you can export such files - so it is no problem with e.g. libtiff that would prevent you from exporting anything. It is pretty likely Windows doesn't delete fonts, but marks them as hidden. This may not be reflected in the list of fonts available to GIMP, if fontconfig - the library used to list and categorize fonts - either does not support this yet, or is not configured to do so. We got a similar bug report about fonts not being used due to language settings: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=641808 What we need is for someone using the affected platform (or caring very much about it) to figure out how fontconfig can be made to honor these settings and/or the font state (i.e. them being hidden or not, respectively). This could be a configuration setting, or may require a code change in this library. Blacklisting arbitrary fonts based on some of their feature is possible, so this might be a matter of finding something these fonts have in common that is also recognized and understood by fontconfig. -- Regards, Michael GPG: 96A8 B38A 728A 577D 724D 60E5 F855 53EC B36D 4CDD ___ gimp-user-list mailing list List address:gimp-user-list@gnome.org List membership: https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list List archives: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-user-list

[Gimp-user] ANNOUNCE: GIMP 2.8.20 released
Hi, we are releasing GIMP 2.8.20 with a number of bug fixes, including the official fix for the weird language choices on macOS (this was already fixed in an update to the most recent 2.8.18 package). Users on the Microsoft Windows platform will notice a fix to end the crazy oscillating between different input devices, for example a tablet stylus and the mouse. This is a bugfix release in the stable 2.8 series, no new features were added. For a complete list of changes since 2.8.18 please see the "Changes" section below. Also see the release notes of the 2.8 series at https://www.gimp.org/release-notes/gimp-2.8.html Happy GIMPing, --Michael Download GIMP 2.8.20 is available from: https://download.gimp.org/pub/gimp/v2.8/ and from the mirrors listed at: https://www.gimp.org/downloads/#mirrors Please use the torrent, it distributes the download bandwidth across all mirrors: https://download.gimp.org/pub/gimp/v2.8/gimp-2.8.20.tar.bz2.torrent The checksum of the tarball is: d405640c426b234d6efc36fb4f5bae57 gimp-2.8.20.tar.bz2 Overview of Changes from GIMP 2.8.18 to GIMP 2.8.20 === Core: - Avoid D-Bus error message when built without D-Bus support - fix OS X min required conditional in gimpimagewindow.c - Saving to existing .xcf.bz and .xcf.gz files didn't truncate them and could lead to unnecessarily large files - Text layer created by gimp-text-fontname doesn't respect border when resized - Avoid seeking when saving XCF files to prevent corruption with file network shares (fixed since 2014, but not mentioned in NEWS yet) GUI: - Flow on Paint Dynamics editor dialog: the 'y' axis is indicating 'Rate' instead 'Flow' - Vertical ruler shows artifacts if the status bar isn't showing - Tablet stylus misbehaves when crossing the edge of a dock in multi-window-mode - Disable the new "automatic window tabbing" feature introduced on macOS Sierra - Improve the visibility of slider handles with dark themes - Make it harder to switch to renaming if selecting already selected items in resource lists Tools: - Make toggling to color picker mode of paint tools more robust Libgimp: - Call gimp_file_entry_set_filename() with filename encoding Windows Installer: - Reduce the memory requirement when running the installer (has already been shipped in a 2.8.18 installer-only update) - Ship an updated libcairo to fix GTK+ UI rendering problems, like missing palette border/bevel and shadows under tab labels macOS DMG: - Ship the Tango icon theme with the DMG for a complete set of icons - Fix the way mime data is copied into the bundle - No longer copy Pango modules into the bundle - Prevent a crash caused by drag&drop on OSX by patching the included GTK+ - Ship a patch for gettext to make sure the preferred UI language will be used Plug-ins: - Prevent the Python console from closing by the Escape key - Help browser does not launch on OS X - Filter 'Edge Detect/Difference of Gaussians' returns empty image - Only use -xobjective-c for compile commands - mkgen.pl: fix calls to write_file() routine to write to current directory - When printing, the images are composed onto a white background to prevent printing a black box instead of a transparent image - Fix color vision deficiency display filters to apply gamma correction directly Updated Translations: - Catalan - Czech - Danish - Finnish - French - German - Greek - Hungarian - Icelandic - Italian - Polish - Portuguese - Slovak - Slovenian - Scottish Gaelic - Spanish - Swedish General: - Bug fixes Contributors Akkana Peck, Ingo Brückl, Jehan, Jernej Simončič, Kristian Rietveld, Massimo Valentini, Michael Natterer, Michael Schumacher, Thomas Manni, Translators === Anders Jonsson, Ask Hjorth Larsen, Balázs Meskó, Benedikt M. Nothing broken there - the file type filter on the right limits the displayed files to those matching the type chosen, and the file type selection can be used to choose a type (and file name extension) for the exported file. There's hardly ever any need to change the latter from its default "By extension" setting, though. -- Regards, Michael GPG: 96A8 B38A 728A 577D 724D 60E5 F855 53EC B36D 4CDD ___ gimp-user-list mailing list List address:gimp-user-list@gnome.org List membership: https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list List archives: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-user-list

[Gimp-user] ANNOUNCE: GIMP 2.8.22 released
Hi, we are releasing GIMP 2.8.22 with various bug fixes. All platforms will benefit from a change to the image window hierarchy in single window mode, which improves painting performance when certain GTK+ themes are used. This version fixes an ancient CVE bug, CVE-2007-3126. Due to this bug, the ICO file import plug-in could be crashed by specially crafted image files. Our attempts to reproduce the bug failed with 2.8 and thus the impact had likely been minimal for years, but now it is gone for good. Users on the Apple macOS platforms will benefit from fixes for crashes during drag&drop and copy&paste operations. On the Microsoft Windows platforms, crashes encountered when using the color picker with special multi-screen setups are gone, and picking the actual color instead of black from anywhere on the screen should finally be possible. For a complete list of changes since 2.8.20 please see the "Changes" section below. Also see the release notes of the 2.8 series at https://www.gimp.org/release-notes/gimp-2.8.html Happy GIMPing, --Michael Download GIMP 2.8.22 is available from: https://www.gimp.org/downloads and the mirrors listed in https://www.gimp.org/downloads/#mirrors Please use the torrents to distribute the download bandwidth across many mirrors. The new cache file is actually created, but it never replaces the old one, and so this process is repeated on every start. Even when intervening manually, anything which causes a regeneration of the cache may run into the same issue and start that annoying cycle anew. > I did the suggestion, but it only worked the second time I opened gimp. all > the times > after (and still) it takes 50 seconds or more to search for fonts. Has anyone > come up with a permanent fix for this problem? A permanent fix is to use a more recent version of the fontconfig library, and as mentioned in that bug report, this is something aimed for in a 2.8.24 release (or actually, the installer package created from that). The current development release for the Windows platforms, 2.9.6, uses the recent fontconfig and startup behavior seems to consistently avoid that issue, so I'm confident that's fixed for good. -- Regards, Michael GPG: 96A8 B38A 728A 577D 724D 60E5 F855 53EC B36D 4CDD ___ gimp-user-list mailing list List address:gimp-user-list@gnome.org List membership: https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list List archives: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-user-list
