Nope. Replaced the cabled. Tried different ports..
Pretty much the only thing I haven't replaced is the switch itself and the
Modem. I'm pretty sure it's not the switch, because the problem goes away
when I unplug (or turn off) the VM system. So I think it's the modem,
being triggered by the traffic pattern from the VM systems.

It may be somehow related to the account named Trading that GnuCash created.
Normally, GnuCash will only create that account for users that know that they
want to use a special feature that is there for investors to use to help with
capital gains calculations, and it normally isn't used by most people.

Actually, I am not sure how to safely delete that account (and prevent it from
coming back) if you do not want it, because it contains transfers to and from
your security accounts.  Perhaps a developer or another user can advise us
about that.   That is still not the cause of the crash, the developers may need
more details about that.

Good luck.

That lck file is the mechanism by which gnucash ensures that each file
 is
only opened once at a time. If that file is there, that means gnucash is
using the corresponding ".gnucash" file. Of course, if gnucash crashes
 and
is unable to delete that .lck file, it will superexist the gnucash
 process.
In this case, the correct choice is "open anyway", and copying
 everything
first is an excellent idea, too.

Re: importing

2017-10-12 Thread frank raney
I am using win 10 and installed GC 2.6.18.

I have even tried putting the help pdf file manually, no luck..looks like
the install file is only the program, no help file...got it from the GC web
site  https://www.gnucash.org/download.phtml

The help files come along automatically in Windows and most Linux packages.

I forgot to mention that there is a setting somewhere called "Use Trading

Frank,

There is still a problem with Gnucash on your computer because it should not be
crashing.

Good luck.

That lck file is the mechanism by which gnucash ensures that each file is
only opened once at a time. If that file is there, that means gnucash is
using the corresponding ".gnucash" file. Of course, if gnucash crashes and
is unable to delete that .lck file, it will superexist the gnucash process.
In this case, the correct choice is "open anyway", and copying everything
first is an excellent idea, too.

2017-10-12 Thread Amish

Amish - the only thing I think I can suggest at this point is that each
company has it's own user login - at least that way the list of accounts is
not cumbersome.. Or thinking about it, if on linux (may work on Win, probably
not on Mac), you could create some shortcuts for each accounts file that sets
up a custom environment (i think you need to set GNC_DOT_DIR bit have a good
google first) before launching GC so that each company has its own prefs file.
probably more cumbersome than a really busy menu, and error-prone, though,,,

Maf.

Easiest workaround would be that I have two saved-reports stored in
.gnucash directory.

say saved-reports-companyA and saved-reports-companyB

Before starting gnucash for a company I copy saved-reports-companyX to
saved-reports-2.4

This can be done with 2 line script (say gccompany):

#no error checking done
cp ~/.gnucash/saved-reports-$1 ~/.gnucash/saved-report-2.4
exec gnucash /path/to/$1.gnucash

Then instead of calling "gnucash companyA.gnucash"
I call "gccompany companyA"

That way I dont have to maintain 2 Linux accounts and 2 different
settings directory.
