I've used it to enforce rates and sometimes change racist/obscene names but
thats about it.

"0" was the way to go for default behavior. I'm thinking about just turning
my server off. Without the utility of the plugs-ins it's just too hard for
me to manage.

gather from this article we would not be allowed to do so.

I see that some people use the max_fps switch in their cfg. I am trying to

Re: [hlds] remove custom sprays

2005-11-16 Thread Chris K
--
[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
For those that use Mani, looks like this came out yesterday. Might help
some. I plan on trying it out.

Release V1.1.0zf (15th November 2005)

Mostly fixes have been patched back into this version but I've added the
Spray Tag Tracking from the Beta version back into this series. There
appears to be serious issues surrounding the content of certain sprays being
used at the moment, hopefully this will help admins.

Added Spray Tag Tracking (From beta version)

For those that have never heard of this. The code tracks all sprays that are
used when playing and remembers their position, who sprayed it etc.
If you see an offensive spray that breaks your server rules.
Simply go up to the spray, open the admin menu and go to Player Management,
press 9 for more, then select Spray Tag Tracking.
You will see a beam (same as death beam) going from your position to the
Spray that is nearest to you. (Note that the beam does not work in
DoD:Source but you will get the following menu)
At the same time a menu will appear giving you the player name, steam id and
4 options for that player.

1. Warn Player
2. Kick Player
3. Ban player for x minutes
4. Permanently ban player

I have sv_downloadurl set to 1 and I would say 98% of my clients have no
problem with fast downloads. The others, I assumed, have some sort of router
issues. I also was under the impression that setting it to 0 would shut off
all downloads but have not verified this.

Just my 2 cents.

[hlds] sv_downloadurl issue

2005-11-08 Thread Chris K
--
[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
I've noticed and had a few complaint's of an issue where resources are
redownloaded over again upon reconnecting. I have seen this myself on my
client and am looking for more insight.

My issue might have been a matter of case. My client had a few uppercase
files and my isp host had lowercase files (identical files otherwise). Now
windows is not case sensitive and Unix is, which may or may not be the
problem. Once I deleted the files and reconnected they came down one last
time and all has been well (I did not try renaming them).

Anyone else have any story's/fixes to tell regarding files repeatedly
downloading? My fear is that I could be unnecessarily running out the
bandwidth clock on my host.

[hlds] Possible hack

2005-08-15 Thread Chris K
OK, I'm freaking out here. Someone is running mani + console commands
on my box and it's not me or any of my two other admins. I was even
frozen once before I dropped out to see who, what, why this is
happening. First thing I did was change RCON password and restart the
server. I join and all is going well so I leave, then check HLSW and
someone is talking as Console. I take a quick snapshot of all the
Steam ID's involved & plow into the logs. Cannot tell what is going
on. People are asking the Console for Admin & there are none on the
box! Looks like a map was changed without a vote. I'm lost. I did ban
one guy that caught my eye and nothing has happened for a little while
but we'll see.

There are only 3 admins, none with RCON password but me & none of them
were playing.

Just me or anyone else getting this? Maybe a new hack out there?

Oh, and it is a VAC2 secure server.

Yea, that's the one I got. I'm using the Admin Pack 2 but it's not
