[hlds] Looking for a utility...

2010-08-31 Thread Shawn Somers
I'm in the process of building some automated scripts to help manage
servers, and before I reinvent the wheel, I figure I'll ask other
windows server operators...

Does anyone on this list have a windows COMMAND LINE utility for sending
rcon commands to a server?

PLEASE, in the hope of minimizing spam replies, only reply if you DO.

Disable source/meta mod, see if it still crashes.

We had some issues with one of our plugins causing crashes until it was
updated.

Ahh.. Did not know that the BB was nerfed as well. Guess I'll quit
playing pyro altogether and switch to engineer and build 4 sentries at a
time.

Re: [hlds] Team Fortress 2/Day of Defeat: Source Update

2010-04-29 Thread Shawn Somers
Only problem with that, is that it doesn't encourage m2, it just
eliminates the penalty for using the BB.

I would have understood it if this was a drop weapon, but instead, it
penalizes every pyro and reduces them to medics assistant to put out
fires and a juggling clown.

Re: [hlds] [OT] Website builder for your server websites

2010-02-15 Thread Shawn Somers
It all depends on what you're after, realistically.

Many server communities use webforums of some type, and the majority of
those are at least partially PHP.

if all you wants is an informational page for your servers, PHP/CSS
Should cover the majority of what you'll need.

Re: [hlds] "couldn't allocate any server IP port" when specifying my public IP address

2010-02-08 Thread Shawn Somers
make sure that you have sv_lan 0 set in your server.cfg file (and have
that file called on the command line)
do NOT use +IP in the command line, that is for machines with multiple
public IP's.

You should be able to connect ot the machine via LAN and WAN after that.

If you have full access to the server, run a packet capture.

Knowing what goes to the server to cause it goes a LONG way to fixing it.

Re: [hlds] L4D Crash exploit?

2009-10-06 Thread Shawn Somers
First:
What type of server? leased/Owned? remote colo? what level of access do
you have to it?

Second: have you checked available resources on the server? When is the
last time that the server was restarted/rebooted?

Have you checked the security on the server itself?

Check the log and see if the same user tries to connect before the
crash, if so, drop them in the banned user list.

Also, that's not a crash, but a clean exit. if I hard kill the server
process, the logs do NOT end that clean. OTOH, if I `quit' at the server
console...
