[hlds_linux] Steam given up and using a real download
Well after nearly two days to dismal failure Im now downloading steam cached install from fileshack which is maxing out my line at 250Kb/s instead of the 400b/s / constant disconnects that is steam. Conclusion for those of you that havent managed to get it via steam give up and download it like a normal demo / game. Both Fileshack and Fileplanet have it and Im sure more will follow. Now just need them to release cached versions of all the other mods so I can finally test our servers. I just hope valve learn from this and either make considerable improvements or ditch steam for hl2. I'd say you need 1000 times the bandwidth if not more than you currently have. A client which doesnt constantly disconnect, continues where it did aka like a web browser and gives decent feedback total size transfer rate ( without the sill monitor window ) and time remaining so we know if we can go on holiday while it download :P Steve / K P.S.
