Re: [IceHorses] Re: Kentucky Icelandic Horse Show
A broken mouthed shanked bit is quite severe Typically the icelandic bit doesn't have a purchase to speak of. I am not sure how much of difference this makes in potential for severity over a shanked bit with a purchase, but I don't doubt that it does make a difference. I'm not saying icelandic bits are good or bad, just an observation. Cheryl Sand Creek Icelandics Icelandic Horses and Icelandic Sheepdogs email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] website: www.toltallyice.com
[IceHorses] Re: Kentucky Icelandic Horse Show
Judy A lot of people ride without dropped nosebands, so I am sure many of the horses will not have them. Shoes are no longer required in shows, so I wouldn't be surprised so see some horses without them. I am sure that everyone with or without nosebands or shoes will be welcome. I would be happy to take photos. Are you interested in the show in general or in anything in particular? Rich

A lot of people ride without dropped nosebands, so I am sure many of the horses will not have them. Just to be fair, though, we should point out that, up until maybe two years ago, it was against FEIF rules to use a dropped noseband with a shanked Icelandic bit. So, it's not exactly innovativeor humane for someone to show up without a dropped noseband...IF they are using a shanked bit.A broken mouthed shanked bit is quite severe, even if used with NO noseband. Just for comparison I looked up the current international dressage rules (FEI) about bits and nosebands: http://www.horsesport.org/d/PDFS/DressageRules2006_w_corr_07_000.pdf Pages 28-31 describe and illustrate what bits are allowed, and which ones aren't. You will notice that none of the allowed curb bits have a broken mouthpiece, and that it's expressly forbidden to use a dropped noseband with a curb bit. Also, note the length is limited for curb bits. Karen Thomas [EMAIL PROTECTED] No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. That will be great to see! I would be happy to take photos. Are you interested in the show in general or in anything in particular? I'd be interested in seeing if the horses without nosebands are accepting the bit, how much contact the riders are using, if they are using boots, how many are away from the icelandic saddles. Some shots with the horses moving towards the camera would be good to look at the flight of the legs. Thanks! Judy http://icehorses.net http://clickryder.com
