If you look at the available ones, you will see that they stopped development soon after the first few releases. There are personal accounting software like SQL Ledger that are probably quite mature, but nothing in the class of Tally. My parents use tally for calculating tax and other stuffs, Is there any existing accounting OpenSource software like tally that get live updates through the net on tax issues and other fiscal policies as soon as implemented. If such one doesnt exist, could be a good project.. Please find equivalent software at http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Jaunty, you will be amazed by the ease and functionality that is on offer. Tally systems can not be customized and by default any PC/propriety software will run slow for a fact that they use MS database and reporting engine. Yes it is true. Using wine is not a solution, where you still need Win. There are better options for financial accounting based on Linux. Tally is a good accounting software and let me remind you, you are vulnerable to viruses. One more thing people have intelligence can access your tally accounts over net.
