[IRCA] 1610 kHz Mystery Station

2011-09-11 Thread Dennis Vroom

0905-0926 utc two women talking religion on 1610 kHz.   Mostly weak signal
and some interference from HAR's stations on the channel.  Signal has rapid
fading and is heard on all three antennas at equal strength.  It seems the women
have opposing views on the topic.  Hard to really follow because of the
conditions.
Language is English.  Has anyone heard this on 1610 kHz?

This should be the Caribbean Beacon station on Anguilla, Dennis, I think.
With the very disturbed conditions of late, propagation to the south is
enhanced big time (or nothing is propagating from the north)..Walt

[IRCA] DU's TP's for 09-11-11

2011-09-11 Thread Dennis Vroom
Only one TP heard this morning JOBB 828 briefly then faded out.  5 tentative DU
stations
heard.  No ID's heard.   774 signal rose to good briefly, than faded out after
song ended.
Reminded me of the early 80's.

657        New Zealand 1321-1323 Southern Star? weak with instrumental music
for a few minutes.
702       Australia? 1332 two DU accented men voices briefly, faded.
738       Australia? 1350 weak signal with two men talking in DU accented
voice.
774       Australia 3LO? 1325-1330 two men talking about music.  Weak with a
lot of splatter.
1334 fair with Pop music, good at 1336 then faded out when song
ended.
828        Japan, JOBB 1314 very weak with man in Japanese.
1116      New Zealand? 1342-1345 weak with woman singing Pop song.  Woman
talking after song
             ended.  Soon faded out.

Didn't get to MW until later due to good Pacific beacon conditions due to
the solar activity, but very good Down Under results. Many hets over the
whole band with some audio, some rising to decent level at times. 1321-1355
utc (891 the last to fade out at 1355). 567, 594, 621, 657, 702, 738, 792,

[IRCA] TP for 11Sep2011 from Victoria: Oh the pain!

2011-09-11 Thread Walter Salmaniw
On this solemn morning, I began listening to the bands at 13:07 UTC, along
with Nick Hall-Patch's DX Fishbarrel. The picture was not pretty! Almost a
complete wipe-out of any signals, and those that were present were
attenuated, and exclusively from DU. Not a single Asiatic this morning.
 SF: 116, A, an incredible 34, and K(at 12:00) of 1. Minor radio blackouts
during the past 24, and minor radio blackouts again forecast for the next
24. As always, a 6 (threshold audio) unless otherwise noted:

567
612: Brisbane at 7 at 13:25, 7.5 at 13:47
702: 7 level on 702.000. Another weaker carrier on 701.893 noted. 2BL
Sydney
729: 7 level music at 13:26. ?RNZ National or 5RN ABC National?
738
774: 8 level 3LO ABC Melbourne at 13:20, and still at same level at 13:30.
792: 7.5 level at 13:22. 4RN Brisbane.
819: 6 level after 13:25. ?Australia or NZ?
828: 7 level after 13:25. Presumed 3GI ABC Gippsland
837
846: 7 level early, 8 level at 13:38 with EZL music and // to 792. 2RN ABC
National, Canberra.
936, 1008
1098: 7 level OC
1152, 1161, 1332: all 6 level at 13:41
1548: 7 level at 13:44. 4QD ABC Central Queensland, Emerald.

That's it for this morning. As I type this, I'm listening to AFN Guam on
5765 USB with the ceremonies from Ground Zero. Very moving. 73s,

Dennis,

While normally PMS is the only woman who gets to speak on her so-called
University Network, nevertheless in such a situation the first thing you need
to do is check whether it is // or not to night/day frequencies Anguilla on
6090/11775 or WWCR on 5935/13845 --- only PMS is on 5935, but 13845 also
carries some other programming. Anyhow, when you can get 1610 only the lower
frequencies would be used on SW.

Thanks for the information on the Caribbean Beacon station on Anguilla.
I found a recording on a DX website and it sounded like the format that
I heard earlier this morning.  Caught some audio on the R-30 CC connected

[IRCA] KBND heard in San Diego on barefoot PL-606

2011-09-11 Thread Stephen Airy
I was checking a few frequencies about 15 minutes ago looking for (yes, I'll
admit it) Radio Disney. KMIK 1580 (the one I normally listen to at night) had
too much co-channel interference from KBLA, 1290 KKDD was unreadable in the
muck, so I checked 1110. There I heard a weak KDIS, along with a stronger KFAB.
I listened for a couple minutes, and noticed that when I nulled KFAB I heard
another news/talk station ON TOP of KDIS! (Normally KDIS is on top here and
needs to be nulled to hear KFAB.) Within the next few minutes, I heard a KBND
call. Looking them up on Radio-Locator reveals them to be in Bend, OR, with
10kW/5kW DA-N with a night pattern that doesn't really favor me.
Are they on day rig, or are conditions from north to south exceptionally good
on the west coast? It's the first time I recall hearing KBND here.

Re: [IRCA] KBND heard in San Diego on barefoot PL-606

2011-09-11 Thread Patrick Martin
Great catch! I checked and KBND sounds like their normal 5 KW at 150
miles to the SE. At night off the Eastern beverage they mix with KFAB.
KDIS is extremely rare here. The old KRLA was fairly common in the the
60s 70s, but they must have changed their pattern in later years, as
KDIS is real DX!
