[IRCA] TONIGHT: DX test WWXL-1450 (Rescheduled)

2014-03-20 Thread DX E-Mail
If you heard the DX Test from WWXL-1450 intially scheduled for last
Saturday, March 15th, you DID NOT hear it. However, good news .

Regrets for the late notice, but the schedule of station personnel is very
fluid at the moment, so we take what we can get (and are EXTREMELY grateful
for the re-schedule of this test). For TONIGHT/early tomorrow morning:

March 21, 2014. 12:00-1:00 PM EDT (0500-0600 UTC). WWXL-1450, Manchester,
Kentucky will conduct a DX test at a power of 1,000 watts non-directional.
The test will include Morse code, other sound effects and voice
announcements. Reception reports may be sent by email to
jodypritc...@gmail.com. Please include a mp3 audio clip with your e-mail
submission. Snail mail reports may be sent to: WWXL-AM Radio, ATTN: Jody
Ritchie - Chief Engineer, P.O. Box 449, Manchester, KY 40962-0449. Many
thanks to Jody Ritchie for continuing this great series of DX tests!

1566 TWR Benin coming in surprisingly well over the terrible
thunderstorm noise here. English announcements and now into a song with
consistent audio for the last few minutes. No other TAs noted right
now, but 783 was in last night with occasional audio at this time (0330
UTC). This might be my best copy of 1566 to date.

Great Jim! They are still going strong here, over 30 minutes now with
steady audio with very little fade. TA's never come in like this here,
so this is a bit exciting, and the local music a little bit ago was
awesome to hear.

It's still there for me.? Steps I took to get in just now:
Open Chatzilla (my chat client - attached to Firefox)
type "/server irc.starchat.net", then wait the several seconds for it to
load

type "/join #mwdx" ... and there it is. :)
I also have AndChat on my Android phone, and it has an entry I can tap on
to open the server.? (I don't remember if I have it set to auto-join the
chat or not, though.)

My apologies to everyone on the list for sending out an entire digest with my

[IRCA] Fun and Frivolity with KHMO

2012-02-11 Thread DX E-Mail
As someone who has had the pleasure to work in broadcasting for several
years, I, like others on this list, am able to see this from "both sides of
the fence".

Seems the responsible thing from the broadcaster's perspective is to
politely let the station know when these things happen, if you are so
inclined.

And the smart thing to do (from a DXers perspective), is to not to e-mail
the DX lists about it - unless someone wants to deal with the blowback.

Neil,

Thank you.

Frankly, I don't care that DX'ers have "taken me to task" and chastised
me,

because as a responsible broadcaster, I did the right thing. Most of those
who've criticized me (except Fred and Les) don't work in radio currently..
and have no idea what its like to be on this side of the fence.

Has anyone on our side of the Mississippi ever logged KNZZ 1100 Grand
Junction?

Mark Durenberger

I logged 'em on a DX test I arranged back in the 90's. I seem to remember
there were numerous other DXers East of the Mississippi that did, too.

I think someone arranged another test from 'em a year or so later, and it,
too was well-heard in the Eastern U.S.

Idaho not good enuf for ya easterners? Paul Walker reports on the
following DX Test, and it's probably closer to >Russia than Sarah Palin's

Given that the >Chigago Three were on all night last night, here's hoping
the Chicago transmitter work proceeds as planned the >morning of Saturday
March 10. There's just two matters to resolve - defining the time zone
where the station is >located, and figuring out how that translates into
UTC, CST, EST, PST etc And determining if e-mail QSL requests
(leading to eQSLs of course) are acceptable. Paul and I came up with
conflicting times and I'm not convinced either of >is right. So from Paul
(with thanks): Saturday March 10th 12am to 1230am local time

According to greenwichmeantime.com , Kotzebue is GMT-9 until March 11th,
when it's local time will be GMT-8. This means it will still be GMT-9
there on the date of the test.

2012-03-06 Thread DX E-Mail

From: Les Rayburn

Subject: [IRCA] Chicago Stations Off Air Recap Request?

I have about thirty e-mails in my inbox devoted to discussions about the
Chicago station off-air periods, and DX tests scheduled
during that time period.

Hate to ask those who have already done so much, but could someone
tackle putting these events into a single "recap" e-mail that
DX'ers can print out for reference? I'm just struggling to get a decent
antenna into place by then.

I agree. It does all seem a little chaotic. I also could use a concise
snapshot of just what's going to hapopen with not only the stations who will
be silent (and when), but the stations that have actually agreed to a test.
Can anyone help? Maybe even post this on the web?
