The actual system this email system runs on has long passed its best before
date -- not even sure that there have been any updates in years.

Being blunt: you are barking up the wrong tree if you expect any change to
happen anytime soon.

I manage a list exactly like this at UVic with over 1000 readers. I am
replacing it with MailChimp as we speak. All these ListServ systems are on
highly borrowed time.

If Presidential candidate Trump was DXing this morning...

"Look at these radio conditions. Signals cowering in the noise. Sad. I'll charm
them out of the noise. Charming. It's what I am..."

Seriously: audio (very shaky and auroral) on 1566, 1575, 1611...
Hets here and there...

Nhp fish barrel indicates sadness everywhere... Like someone built a wall...
And made the DX pay for it.

I do not think you could run the ground side of the connection via ground rods

Re: [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 3-5

2016-03-05 Thread coffee_canuck
The Victoria session looked very similar but I spent more time basking in
unusual audio popping up in different places and not spending much time chasing
ID's -
Session time: 1315 until 1450 -- one of my longest sessions in the season.

Audio, often fair noted on:
558, 567, 594, 603, 612, 639, 675, 702 (JJ), 747, 756, 765, 774, 793, 828, 837,
846, 855, 864, 873 (JJ), 909, 918, 927, 945, 954, 972, 1008, 1017 (JJ t.),
1035, 1053, 1134, 1143, 1196, 1278, 1287, 1296, 1377 (RRI Toli Toli from Web
stream - alarmingly good at times - more than 10kw?)
1566, 1575, 1593 (CC) --
Upper band was just average.
Mid-band was on fire entire sesh and low band was pretty skookum the entire
time as well.
A nice Saturday morning indeed!

2016-02-11 Thread coffee_canuck
Excellent question - the VHF links stayed up and were being recorded at the
station - for rebroadcast later.
I have around 1 hour of live ham traffic on 20, 40 and 80 meters. If memory
serves me correctly, they were off for all of or part of 1 evening.
Content from KGO-TV 7 was being carried on other networks.
My audio on this track was from night 2 or 3 - and I have more live audio on
another tape of night 2 where there were significant after shocks.

I must have picked one of the better mornings in a long time...

Korea at good levels.

Audio at times fair on 747, 774, 828, 972 and *whoa* actual jammer on 1053!

I said, "Stand by while I Czech..."

Re: [IRCA] TP 14 Nov Victoria version

2015-11-14 Thread coffee_canuck
In my sesh, 1415 until around 1505 UTC, I enjoyed around 20 seconds of arm
chair audio on 1575 kHz VOA - around 50 minutes prior to LSR.

Despite what Nick's fish barrel indicated: gd. Signals occasionally on 702,
774, 828, 846, and a few others...
I had none of it - periodically I would encounter largely pretend snippets of
something remotely resembling "modulation" on 603, 612, 702, 738, 774, 828,
837, 909, 1026, 1098 and 1116.

It was the skantist (is that even a word?) of sessions. I found myself gazing
at the ceiling of my shack while listening to network radio on CBC 690 dreaming
of a time when the ionosphere was less hostile.

Ah well.

Thoughts and prayers for the people of Paris, Beirut, Bagdad suffering from
terrorist aggression - and to our coalition forces pursuing ISIS - God speed.

Lower band a series of hets.

I said this was live didn't I?

Oh look, Toonces the cat just wandered into the shack... She looks bored...
Toonces, what are you doing with that Red Phillips driver?!?
Not the Drake SPR4!! Toonces, no!

Anyway... Other than good audio on 1575... Ok maybe that's a stretch...

Re: [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 11-6

2015-11-07 Thread coffee_canuck
Mark touches on something very dear to my heart that I have been thinking about
a lot lately:

A.) it has been decades since I have enjoyed occasional reception from Central
and South America from Victoria B.C. With far less sophisticated receivers and
antennas.
Why is that? (And I am likely over simplifying this...)

B.) I want to hear them again or understand why I am not hearing them now.

I think, as Nick has observed in the past, is that:
1.) they are there and
2.) you need to be diligent, creative and patient... Because:

- it's not like TP DX which is largely "shooting fish in a barrel" because it
is... And

- you have to deal with all that stuff between you and the DX - where ever it
might be.

I'll always remember my first XE in 1972 and my first international DX in 1973
after I stopped convincing myself that it wasn't possible.
..
.. To be continued...

Re: [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 11-6

2015-11-07 Thread coffee_canuck
Between the Spring of 1975 and the fall of 1976, I heard most of the countries
in Central America, a few in South America and a dozen or so countries in
Europe, Africa and the Middle East... On a DX150B and some random wire
antennas that actually passed over a 220V home power line. On medium wave.

I get that conditions have been crap for months (with one or two delightful
exceptions...)

And I wonder why I don't hear more N/S stuff...

Well, for one, I suppress reception from the S with Flag antennas and
directional arrays.
Maybe I need to face at least 1 antenna in another direction...
South... At least for starters.

No report: my instincts directed me to stay in bed. Listening earlier in 'the
