[JAWS-Users] JAWS And Skype

2016-02-17 Thread Hicks Steven (ROYAL CORNWALL HOSPITALS NHS TRUST)
Hi all,

Does anyone know how I can check if there are any notifications for me in
Skype, 7.13 I think, when a new contact has requested me to respond and accept
them for example?

Many thanks in anticipation,

[JAWS-Users] JAWS And Skype

2014-11-04 Thread Hicks Steven (CORNWALL IT SERVICES)
Hi friends,

Is anyone still using Skype with JAWS and how is the latest client for
accessibility?
I have not used it for some time now and just installed it on my laptop.
It looks like it tried to bundle itself with Windows Live and I have tried
several different ways to log in but it is having none of it.
Appreciate that the logon issue is not for the JAWS list but if there are
accessability considerations, I will just uninstall it from my machine.
If anyone is prepared to try to help me off list, I would be very grateful at:
steven.hi...@nhs.net

Take care all.

[JAWS-Users] Jaws and Skype

2010-05-31 Thread Jean Menzies
I've just downloaded and installed Skype. Are there any articles or tutorials
or guides on using it with Jaws? I'm a bit lost with it and don't know how to
get started. I've got my headset working, but beyond that I don't know how to
proceed. Any help is appreciated.

[JAWS-Users] Jaws and Skype

2008-09-07 Thread Dale Leavens
Hi,

Something has happened to Skype both on my Windows XP Home computer and on this
Vista computer which I don't understand.

I have selected hot keys and Alt-Pageup to answer, Alt-Pagedown to cancel. It
doesn't work on either computer, I did select Save in that dialogue.

I also set Extended Keyboard and Simplified Graphics in the View menu I think
that was found.

They don't work!

Unlike in the old days when I hit enter on a contact I get into the Chat window
I would as soon not have chat at all!

The only way to initiate a call is to go to the call menu and it seems too that
this is the only way to hang up a call.

Is this the way it has to be or is there something else I need to do?

The XP Home machine is using Jaws 7, the Vista is using Jaws 9.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS and Skype 8.1

2018-01-06 Thread wayne smith
I haven't opened my Skype account for some time and I just tried and found
that my usual simple opening is gone. It looks like I have to download a
new Skype 8.1 and I wanted to know if there are users of Skype using JAWS?
I have JAWS 15 on one machine and 17 on another. I prefer simple but that
seems to be gone.

2010-06-10 Thread Chris Hallsworth
You can get it from http://skypetalking.googlecode.com. It works by you
first authorizing it to use Skype. From then on it will use either your
screen reader or your default SAPI5 voice to announce various Skype
events, such as contact status changes, incoming and outgoing chats or
calls, and provides extra accessibility to Skype in general. Hope this
helps.

Hi Dale,

Have you enabled the shortcut keys in Skype's preferences?

You have to do this before you can use those hotkeys to answer and hang up a
call.

I'm assuming you have the scripts for Skype, as you mentioned going into the
keyboard manager to set that up, but just in case you didn't, you should.

Like I said, go into the preferences, and make sure the hotkey use is on. I
think it says something like use global hotkeys or something like that.

2008-09-07 Thread Dale Leavens
Thanks Victor,

No I don't have scripts, didn't know they were really needed. Most things
seem to work fairly well but I do notice that arrowing down say in the
options can be sluggish, hit the arrow and the selection doesn't change so
you hit again and sometimes again and again. Doubt scripts would help that
much though.

I seem to have resolved one issue, getting rid of the default to message
rather than call when a name is selected. There are some really odd settings
though, like setting you to unavailable when inactive for so many minutes or
away. My computer sits sometimes for hours unattended on the corner of the
kitchen table but I am still willing to accept a call.are enabled in Options
on the bottom of the Tools menu. What is odd is that I have selected the
keys to use including CTRL-PAUSE to mute the microphone and the Enable The
Shortcut Keys is checked and of course must be saved because those
selections persist when I close Skype and return.

Both computers behave equally badly.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and Skype

2008-09-07 Thread Victor Gouveia
Hi Dale,

The scripts add more functionality to the program, such as talking caller
I.D. when someone calls you, letting you know who has signed in and out, the
ability for you to use the instant messaging portion of the program, being
able to browse the different tabs of the program, and various other things
that you can do with Skype, but are too numerous to list here.

While you can use the scripts that come readily installed with Jaws, the
newer versions available from David's site do what I said above, and more,
but again, these are luxuries that can be left alone if you don't use those
particular features I've mentioned above.

However, whether you download the scripts or not, you still do have to
change that setting in the options/preferences to use global shortcut keys,
otherwise the alt-page up and page down won't work for you when you answer
and hang up a call, respectively.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and Skype

2008-09-07 Thread Victor Gouveia
Hi Rick,

Not trying to be cheeky, but what if that swapping of personal information,
such as a Skype name, leads to getting assistance with Jaws, would it then
be on topic for the list?

This is a serious question, and not meant as a joke.

I would like to know that if someone is having problems with Jaws, and I
feel I can best help them with the spoken word then with the written one,
would it then be permissible to send the Skype name, which, by the way is
not personal information, in my humblest of opinions, at that juncture, or
would it still be off-limits for the list?

I'm also speaking of offering assistance to those wishing it. For example,
if I wrote that I was able to help people set up and install Winamp, and if
they wanted that explanation, they could visit the Jaws user's page, which
is what I usually tell people, on or off list, but is it permissible to say
that they can feel free to ring me over Skype, if they want the personal
assistance?

Again, I am not trying to be cheeky, as this scenario has happened on a
couple of the lists I help to run, and, in fact, one of my lists will
feature a Skype tutorial, on a conference call over Skype, on how to upload
and download files from web based file sharing sites like send space or You
Send It. In any case, the above example is to illustrate that I would like
some clarification here on this, and I think the list would also benefit
from this clarification.

2008-09-08 Thread Chrissy
hi dale
you have to go into the skype options menue and tab down to advanced
settings. therre you will find the hotkey settings. mark the box to enable
this function. it is disabled by default, so you do need to make sure the
box is checked.
you can now use the alt+page up and down to either initiate a call or hang
up a call.

2008-09-08 Thread Chrissy
Hi dale,
that would be also located in the options menue, in the general settings.
there you will find the box to mark to, upon clicking on a contact, either
make a call or open the chat window.

about your problems with the hotkeys. are you sure you press alt AND page up
/Down. it is not the arrow keys.
Not trying to be smart or anything, but when I was first told abouzt hotke
options I made the exact mistake and used arrow up and down by mistake.

other than that it should work fine, with the instructions, unless your
hotkey functions themselves are disabled on your keyboard or something.

chrissy

2008-09-08 Thread Dale Leavens
Thanks Chrissy,

I have used Skype a long time in the past, there is something about this new
version, it is giving similar problems on two computers here.

Thanks though, someone has said that the ESCape key will hang up a call I'll
try to use that next time. Since I don't really have any friends most of my
testing is between two computers on opposite ends of the dining room table.
How sad is that?

Hi Victor, and all,
I will answer this question off-list,
as that is the proper channel for this discussion.
Any questions concerning list policyare to be sent to the management team,

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and Skype

2008-09-08 Thread Rick Justice
Hi Victor
Looking at the message, there are no references within it
to lead me to believe there is a question concerning Jaws and Skype.
It simply looks like a straight-forward request for contact information.
If a person's contact info isn't contained within the message, the proper
way to request it, is off-list,
since everyone's e-mail address is readily available.
I made my decision based on the information available,
and in this particular instance, there was no request for help.
Consider this:
If everyone were to post like messages, then there would be no need for the
list
because everyone would be asking there questions privately.
Certainly, this list is for the discussion of Jaws, and the management team
likes to see every question answered
with the appropriate resolution, and if some members prefer to correspond
privately, they are certainly free to do so,
and we do not discourage that whatsoever.
This list is a fairly high-traffic list, and we have to read every single
message
whether or not we have any personal interest in the subject.
Having said that, and you being a moderator yourself,
you should be able to understand the need for guidelines, and more
importantly the need for members to follow them.
We process a large number of message every day, to try and ensure timely
delivery to the list,
and in doing so, we havve to make judgement calls, and this was one of
those.
All Donnie would have had to do in the body of his message is said something
to the effect of,
Can you help me more with Jaws and Skype.
and it would have sailed right thru.
If I haven't explained this clearly enough, please contact me.
You've got my e-mail address, here is my phone number:

2008-09-08 Thread Derek Roberts
Hi,

To call, just hit enter on the contact, and to end the call, escape. If
you're using the stable version anyway. If you're using the beta, and yes, I
am using it, press space on the contact in the list and enter to star a
call, and to hang up, go to the live conversations list (one tab away from
the contact list, or control 2 with the skype 4 scripts installed) then
applications key on the conversation, and down arrow to or press h a couple
times for hang-up.

The reason you have to manually select contacts is skype opens a new chat
thing at the bottom of the window whenever you select a contact.

2018-01-06 Thread Inam Uddin
Dear respected friend, the matter of fact is that it has not gone but Microsoft
wants it to abandon one day or another!
There are 3 Skypes are available at present.
Skype classic which most of visually challenged persons are using., Skype app
for windows 10 which very few blind people are using because the script of it
is relatively new and New Skype for desktop which Microsoft wants to replace
with Skype classic.
It seams that you have been using Skype classic with JAWS script for Skype
version 622b revision 983.
If you want to download the latest Skype classic,
Please Click Here
For its script,
Please Click Here
The truth is that we’ll have to use new Skype for desktop one day or another,
so why not we start to learn it from now!
As long as you do not learn to use new Skype for desktop, you can use Skype
classic with its JAWS script both of the links were given above respectively!

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS and Skype audio ducking?

2017-11-26 Thread Fernando Gregoire
Hi,
This is because by default Windows reduces volume an half of the full value
when detects communication, such as via Skype.
To fix this press INSERT+F11 to open the Select a System Tray Icon dialog and
press ENTER on the speaker or headphones icon.
In the context menu, choose Playback Devices. In the Sound Dialog, go to the
Communications page and, in the group of radio buttons, select Do Nothing, then
press ENTER to OK.

Hope it helps!

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS and Skype audio ducking?

2017-11-27 Thread Sadam Ahmed

Hi Fernando,

I've already tried this trouble shooting step, and still experiencing
the issue.

The Disability Answer Desk is suggesting that it's a bug with JAWS, as
Narrator doesn't duck the audio when making calls.

Very annoying indeed, Skype has become all but useless on my machine,
it's that bad.

Any more suggestions or advanced steps I can try before reaching out to
VFO technical support  would be much appreciated.

Best,

Sadam Ahmed

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS and Skype audio ducking?

2017-11-27 Thread Fernando Gregoire
Hi,

Although you are experiencing audio ducking of the JAWS voice, it may be
helpful to verify that audio ducking in JAWS is turned off; to check this,
press JAWS+SPACEBAR and then S.
If this doesn't work, try going to Settings Center and, in the Synthesizer
group, check the Allow Wave Files when Using Software Synthesizer or
something similar option. After okaying this dialog, unload and restart
JAWS for the change to take effect.

Hope it helps!
