[kdeconnect] [Bug 471313] KDE Connect doesn't find devices if computer is connected to more than one network
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=471313 --- Comment #4 from Andy3153 --- (In reply to Pedro V from comment #3) > I'm guessing that in both cases the issue is with broadcasting though, just > not sure how would that happen in the hotspot case with just one interface. > Maybe there are multiple interfaces in that case too even if they are not > connected to the same network, or there are interfaces not considered by the > users as they may not belong to physical connections. It clearly is an issue about broadcasting, and possibly just an issue about looking farther than the first network interface the computer connected to. As I said in the additional info part of my bug report, the problem is fixed if I disconnect the Ethernet, connect to the routerx then restsrt kdeconnectd. > Look at the findings I described in bug 470085 , you might have the same > issue, and it's actually not hard to check, it's not even necessary to > disconnect anything, the "Refresh" menu point on the phone side triggers > discovery, so you can either: > - Just spam and see if you can see a connection on either side for a > fraction of second > - Check the phone with logcat which is likely most feasible to use through > adb > - Check the PC by (optionally?) killing kdeconnectd and running: > QT_LOGGING_RULES="*.debug=true; qt.*.debug=false" > /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libexec/kdeconnectd --replace > > I'm suspecting all these issues to be related even if the hotspot one is not > clear, but even there the remarks of adding by IP address suggests that > skipping the broadcast discovery phase is what fixes the issue. I'll try these when I get back home to my laptop, but, until then, could you point me to some documentation about android logcats? [kdeconnect] [Bug 473351] After boot KDE connect always crush
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=473351 Pedro V changed: What|Removed |Added CC||voidpointertonull+bugskdeor ||g...@gmail.com --- Comment #1 from Pedro V --- Did you start encountering the issue after an update, or is this the first run of the program? You should check ~/.config/kdeconnect/ where privateKey.pem and certificate.pem should be two "reasonable looking" text files starting with "-BEGIN [...]-" and ending with "-END [...]-" . Hard to guess wisely without being familiar with the code, but I'd consider the following problems: - The files just don't exist which is likely the least likely option, at least on its own - The files exist, but they are empty or have garbage data in them. Seems like there's some protection against this case too, but temporarily moving the whole directory out of the way would let you see if that's the problem. Advising moving and not deleting, so you don't lose your data for a test, but you may be okay with reconfiguring from scratch - The files may or may not exist, but there are permission (or generic I/O) errors somewhere which really shouldn't happen, but I'm not convinced these errors are handled too well, so they can cause unexpected problems later in the process You may need to adjust the path depending on where your kdeconnectd binary is, but you can get more useful output by running the following command: QT_LOGGING_RULES="*.debug=true; qt.*.debug=false" /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libexec/kdeconnectd --replace Looking back to the code, there were quite significant related changes somewhat recently, and it seems like there are quite a few error checks you likely don't have in your version. That still doesn't change my suspicion that you likely have a broken environment, so the bug is likely not bailing out in time before an issue causes a crash later. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=471313 --- Comment #3 from Pedro V --- I'm guessing that in both cases the issue is with broadcasting though, just not sure how would that happen in the hotspot case with just one interface. Maybe there are multiple interfaces in that case too even if they are not connected to the same network, or there are interfaces not considered by the users as they may not belong to physical connections. Look at the findings I described in bug 470085 , you might have the same issue, and it's actually not hard to check, it's not even necessary to disconnect anything, the "Refresh" menu point on the phone side triggers discovery, so you can either: - Just spam and see if you can see a connection on either side for a fraction of second - Check the phone with logcat which is likely most feasible to use through adb - Check the PC by (optionally?) killing kdeconnectd and running: QT_LOGGING_RULES="*.debug=true; qt.*.debug=false" /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libexec/kdeconnectd --replace I'm suspecting all these issues to be related even if the hotspot one is not clear, but even there the remarks of adding by IP address suggests that skipping the broadcast discovery phase is what fixes the issue. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kdeconnect] [Bug 470085] App does not reconnect on wifi connect
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=470085 --- Comment #2 from Pedro V --- Either I tracked down another issue, or the bug description is not really correct even though it's mostly what users are expected to observe without paying a lot of attention to details. I don't really know much about Android development, but attempted to see if the network status change callback is working, and it seems to be more than just fine, there's even quite a bit of "overachieving": ``` KDE/BackgroundService: onNetworkChange KDE/LanLinkProvider: identity packet received from a TCP connection from [...] KDE/LanLinkProvider: Starting SSL handshake with [...] trusted:true LanLinkProvider: Starting handshake KDE/LanLinkProvider: identity packet received from a TCP connection from [...] KDE/LanLinkProvider: Starting SSL handshake with [...] trusted:true KDE/LanLinkProvider: Handshake as client successful with [...] secured with TLS_ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA KDE/LanLinkProvider: Creating a new link for device [...] updateDeviceInfo: Updating supported plugins according to new capabilities LanLinkProvider: Starting handshake ``` Then the sockets (yes, two!) just manage to get closed. The PC side also shows the same oddity: ``` kdeconnect.core: LanLinkProvider started kdeconnect.core: Daemon started kdeconnect.core: Broadcasting identity packet kdeconnect.core: TCP connection done (i'm the existing device) kdeconnect.core: Starting server ssl (I'm the client TCP socket) kdeconnect.core: TCP connection done (i'm the existing device) kdeconnect.core: Starting server ssl (I'm the client TCP socket) kdeconnect.core: Socket successfully established an SSL connection kdeconnect.core: It is a known device "[...]" kdeconnect.core: Not loading plugin "kdeconnect_lockdevice" because device doesn't support it kdeconnect.core: Not loading plugin "kdeconnect_remotesystemvolume" because device doesn't support it kdeconnect.core: Not loading plugin "kdeconnect_remotecommands" because device doesn't support it kdeconnect.core: Not loading plugin "kdeconnect_virtualmonitor" because device doesn't support it error activating kdeconnectd: QDBusError("org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply", "Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.") ``` The connection can be observed in both GUIs for a tiny window of opportunity which is quite easy to miss. Take my guess with a bucket of salt, but I think there's a bug exposing a race condition. I'm not sure why are there 2 connections established, but I believe the two handshakes are racing because link update/replacement seems to be for only already established (handshake done) links. Moved to Wireshark to see who's naughty. One broadcast (with way too much information, now I get the "trusted" network concept) from the phone, then it makes two connections, but not even seeing the desktop telling the phone where should it connect to, that can't be right... unless the communication is on another interface. Currently not even running a multi-cable setup, but WiFi is also connected, so disabled that, and boom, now I can't even reproduce the issue even after turning on WiFi again. So overall I'm not sure if mine is yet another issue, but I seem to have the apparently not uncommon issue of multiple networks links not being handled well, so maybe those with tethering issues are also suffering from this. Please make sure you have only 1 network link on both sides (phone is likely to have just WiFi already which is the only relevant link as cellular connection shouldn't matter), then report back so it can be judged if it's the same issue I'm seeing, or we are dealing with multiple problems here. I remember seeing WiFi getting turned off when Ethernet was connected, just not sure how long ago was that, and of course this behavior heavily depends on the setup, but it may be a recent-ish change both for faster disconnect recovery and for letting MPTCP use both connections as support for that is evolving. Sorry for the (lack of proper) formatting, but even without the code block format working I believe the log chunks are short enough not to be disturbing. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[plasmashell] [Bug 470429] Screen shows as "disconnected" after switching monitor. Missing desktop background and panel.
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=470429 Roy Orbitson changed: What|Removed |Added CC||roy-orbit...@devo.net.au --- Comment #2 from Roy Orbitson --- I regularly encounter the same issue on a similar setup: two external monitors on a notebook and the built-in monitor disabled. Physically unplugging then reconnecting the "disconnected" display usually gets its connection status reset.. After doing this, I sometimes need to use the Panels and Desktop Management dialogue to move thins back to the correct monitors. I don't know if it's a separate issue but, like bug 427278, Plasma will also "forget" the config eventually, and at a fresh login will have incorrect monitors enabled/disabled or has the externals as duplicates of each other, though I've never set it that way. The login screen (sddm?) never seems to respect these arrangement settings, and will re-enable the built-in monitor and/or disable one of the externals. I tried using autorandr, which applies profiles perfectly from manual invocation, but seems to conflict with Plasma's own automatic detection. If anyone knows how to disable Plasma's detection so I can try autorandr properly, please tell me. I reduce the frustration by backing up this config (after I've made any changes and everything's arranged right): cp -a ~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma{,-BACKUP}.desktop-appletsrc When things go awry again, I log out of any graphical sessions, open a TTY session, restore it as follows, then log in again: cp -a ~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma{-BACKUP,}.desktop-appletsrc -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kdeconnect] [Bug 473192] KDE connect app interferes with wireless charging on pixel phones on android 14 and android 13.
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=473192 Pedro V changed: What|Removed |Added CC||voidpointertonull+bugskdeor ||g...@gmail.com --- Comment #1 from Pedro V --- I don't think KDE Connect even has the permission to intentionally interfere with charging, at least charge manager apps notoriously either require root permission, or they rely on an external device cutting power on demand. I'd rather blame either the hardware or the phone OS, and I find it likely that regular charging with a cable works okay even though KDE Connect has the same options (theoretically none) to interfere with it. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[kdeconnect] [Bug 471994] Support hidden services from TOR (.onion) or I2P to allow connections between devices in different networks
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=471994 Pedro V changed: What|Removed |Added CC||voidpointertonull+bugskdeor ||g...@gmail.com --- Comment #1 from Pedro V --- This sounds like it should be multiple separate feature requests, but they are also not necessarily the best ways to reach the goal mentioned in the description, so the title is somewhat misleading about what may be needed here. The current public key comparison by the user during pairing should already cover identity security as a starter. Given that many people/entities are afraid of the mentioned overlay networks, it's likely more palatable to focus on the goal of connectivity when the devices are either not in the same logical network, or a direct connection between them is forbidden. This issue can be approached by multiple ways: - You could probably already do this by using a P2P VPN taking care of most of the hurdles and connecting the devices by IP address. Unfortunately the current common FOSS options aren't too great as most of them don't tend to take care of common P2P needs like peer discovery and NAT, but sacrificing some security and using proprietary options like ZeroTier or Tailscale could already work as a solution. This is obviously the easiest approach from the point of view of developers as there's nothing to change in KDE Connect for this to work. - Generic SOCKS support would implicitly support some overlay networks too. Not fully sure about the development effort, but both Qt and Java seems to have okay support for it. Likely the Java side is the more interesting one, at least I'd run a Tor service on the desktop side and let the phone connect through it through Orbot as one possible way. The "Add devices by IP" option deceivingly implies the restriction of accepting only IP addresses, but then later the prompt is asking for "Hostname or IP address", so given proxy support an onion address may work without further work. Do note though that common Tor and I2P implementations aren't really focusing on what's needed here, so for example I wouldn't expect proper handling of the primary route failing while another route is available, at least not before let's say Tor adopts MPTCP, but not sure if that's even being considered currently. - A native full-blown P2P implementation with all the bells and whistles like Syncthing would be the best, but it would also require the most development effort. I wish there would be a FOSS VPN solution that's as good as Syncthing to be piggybacked on with the proxy option, although a native implementation would be always superior mostly on mobile devices with limited battery life. This could be still combined with the usage of an overlay network if more privacy or security is desired. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[kphotoalbum] [Bug 473324] KPhotoAlbum crashes when Jump to Context is used in Thumbnail Viewer with zero thumbnails
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=473324 --- Comment #4 from Victor Lobo --- Thank you! Fix works well. Thanks for fixing both issues; the root cause fix is necessary because it also addresses the other pathways which do not rely on Limit View to Selection (such as placing cursor in Search... field in Thumbnail View and then hitting Jump to Context). Neither Open With or drag and drop work, presumably because mpv tries to use smb://. Is there some workaround available right now that would make this work seamlessly for all applications? Having a system option to always use kio-fuse would be one way of doing it, but it is still not a good default user experience. Unless you reset the > terminal. I wondered why was this bug report still open, but ouch, could reproduce this problem. For other complaints, I'm generally not sure there will be ever a perfect balance between convenient and secure text passing when the whole communication is in a stream of text including control data. Regarding manual input sanitization, I'm not sure it's necessarily the terminal's responsibility to fight everything that may be misinterpreted. For example I'd deem it a quite important security improvement if programs would need a privilege to interact with the clipboard if they are not actively being interacted with, so if Klipper would be checked while Konsole is in the foreground, there would be an implicit guarantee of not having a TOCTOU race condition of the clipboard getting changed after check but before paste. Also if the input would be copied from a trusted program, and nothing else would be interacted with before switching to Konsole, then the clipboard content should be known good data this way. May not be feasible on X11, but I do hope that Wayland is headed this way. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kde] [Bug 473347] New: Tooltips overlap menu items when there's no space on the right side
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=473347 Bug ID: 473347 Summary: Tooltips overlap menu items when there's no space on the right side Classification: I don't know Product: kde Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org Reporter: guimarcalsi...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- Created attachment 160937 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=160937&action=edit Tooltip overlaps menu when there's no space on the right side - It should go to the left side instead SUMMARY In some applications like Dolphin and Gwenview, some menu items have tooltips attached to them. When hovering over a menu entry with the mouse, usually those tooltips are placed on the right side of the menu item, however, if no space is available, instead of going to the left side of the menu, it's placed on top of the menu entry, making it difficult to select the option underneath. The attached video shows the behavior when there's space to the right and when there isn't. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open Gwenview (or Dolphin) 2. Open the hamburger menu 3. Place the window on the right side of the display near the edge, or maximize the window 4. On Gwenview, hover over "Open...", in Dolphin hover over "Select Files and Folders". OBSERVED RESULT The tooltip appears on top of the button, interfering with its selection EXPECTED RESULT The tooltip should aim to appear on the left side of the menu if there's no space on the right. [kde] [Bug 473346] New: Sub-menus overlap menus when window is not maximized
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=473346 Bug ID: 473346 Summary: Sub-menus overlap menus when window is not maximized Classification: I don't know Product: kde Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org Reporter: guimarcalsi...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY Some windows like Dolphin or Gwenview have hamburger menus on the right side of the window. When the window is maximized, sub-menus appear on the left side of the menus as expected (because there's no space on the right), however, if the same window is unmaximized and close to the right edge of the display, the sub-menus appear on top of the menu, obstructing the buttons below. While I'm using hamburger menus as an example, this is NOT specific to hamburger menus, but it's harder to notice because menus in a toolbar usually aren't close to the edge of the screen. The following video illustrates the issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHaSOQs_Cik STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open Gwenview (with a hamburger menu to make it easier to reproduce) 2. Maximize, open the hamburger menu, and then hover over an item that opens a sub-menu. Notice how it opens to the left. 3. Now unmaximize, move the window to the right edge of the screen, and do the same. OBSERVED RESULT The submenu appears on top of the menu, obstructing the items below EXPECTED RESULT When there's space to the left and not on the right of the menu, open submenus on the left side instead of putting them on top of the menu, just the way it happens for maximized windows. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: KDE neon 5.27 KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.7 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.108.0 Qt Version: 5.15.10 Kernel Version: 6.2.0-26-generic (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland Processors: 6 × Intel® Core™ i5-9400F CPU @ 2.90GHz Memory: 15,4 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon RX 570 Series -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Committed on 13/08/2023 at 19:29. Pushed by ngraham into branch 'master'. Make minimum screen brightness not always be 0 With some drivers, a value of 0 disables the screen backlight completely, which is almost certainly not what the user wanted. The Battery & Brightness widget has logic to handle this and instead make 1 the minimum brightness for screens. But Powerdevil does not, and as a result, the behaviors differ between adjusting the brightness using the widget and using the keyboard's "brightness down" key. This is inconsistent and weird. This commit unifies the behaviors by adding logic to Powerdevil to match what the widget does. Arguably this is working around a driver bug, but insisting that all graphics driver bugs be fixed is not practical due to their diversity and frequent regressions. And the Battery & Brightness widget already has such a workaround to prevent users whose graphics drivers don't work as they should from experiencing this issue, so not doing the same here is inconsistent. [kmines] [Bug 446780] Losing a game should produce a new random grid
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=446780 yaxol...@gmail.com changed: What|Removed |Added Resolution|--- |INTENTIONAL Status|REPORTED|RESOLVED CC||yaxol...@gmail.com --- Comment #1 from yaxol...@gmail.com --- In KMines, "resetting" the game is supposed to give you the exact same grid. If you want a new grid, you should: 1. Select "No" when the "Reset the Game?" dialog pops up 2. Start a new game using "Ctrl + N" or by pressing the "New" button on the top left corner If you want to disable the "Reset the Game?" dialog completely, you can go into the General settings and uncheck the "Allow KMines reset" checkbox. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
