SUMMARY
When searching using baloo6, the search indexer does nothing. Purge does
nothing, disabling does nothing, enabling does nothing. When checking the
status, the file indexer returns "Baloo Index could not be opened." Monitoring
shows the program is doing nothing.

This is incredibly frustrating, as there is seemingly no cause as the program
is too cryptic to understand.

Still happens to me on this box:
Enable URLGrabberEnabled=true highlight a URL and the pop up appears and will
not release and then starts to eat all the resources.
I have to jump to a shell and kill plasma, edit URLGrabberEnabled=false and
restart plasma.

I just ran a test, and downgraded kwin* to 6.1.0, then ran kwin --replace.
All my cursors including Breeze worked fine.
I then updated back to kwin 6.1.1 and the Breeze cursor disappears on shake.

[dolphin] [Bug 487778] New: Files "disappear" when viewing an SMB folder via kio

2024-05-29 Thread J. B. Crawford
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=487778

Bug ID: 487778
   Summary: Files "disappear" when viewing an SMB folder via kio
Classification: Applications
   Product: dolphin
   Version: 24.02.2
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: je...@jbcrawford.us
CC: kfm-de...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

When viewing an SMB network folder via kio, most of the files in the folder
sometimes "disappear" on viewing. You can watch them go away one by one. I am
not sure if this problem is occurring in dolphin or kio, of which I have 6.0.4.
It feels possibly related to thumbnailing (which I have enabled for remote
locations) as the files seem to disappear when dolphin attempts to thumbnail
them and there are often one or two files "left behind" that do not disappear,
and when they are media files they will have correct thumbnails.

I am not sure if this should be logged against Dolphin or kio; I haven't seen
it happen with kio clients other than dolphin but I'm not sure if I would have
had the opportunity.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Tricky to reproduce as it seems to be intermittent. But try this...
1. Set up an SMB share (in my case from samba 4.12.8, unsure if this matters),
containing directories with say 20-30 files
2. Add the smb share on another machine in Dolphin via kio, browse to a
directory of files
3. In some cases, the files will disappear one-by-one before your eyes. If you
go up a directory and then back into the one you were just viewing, all the
files are back, but once again start disappearing one by one.
4. Which directories are affected seems to change over time, I haven't totally
narrowed down the conditions but I suspect it happens when the network
connection is interrupted and kio reconnects.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Fedora 40
KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.2.0
Qt Version: 6.7.0
Kernel 6.8.10-300.fc40.x86_64 (64-bit), wayland

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Disabling remote thumbnailing does not eliminate the problem.

This only occurs intermittently but it will be consistent for a given folder:
in some folders the files disappear, in other folders they do not. Later on,
perhaps after a reboot, a different set of folders have this problem.

The following is logged as each file disappears, with the path of the
disappearing file:

dolphin: kf.kio.core: KFileItem: exists called when not initialised
QUrl("smb://u...@host.example.com/path/to/file.txt")
kioworker: kf.kio.core: An error occurred during write. The worker terminates
now.

I have only observed this problem with smb; I also regularly use a webdav share
by kio and have never observed this behavior. It also never occurs when the smb
share is mounted to the filesystem via mount.cifs.

I fear this will be difficult to reproduce, but it happens very consistently
with my particular setup. I am happy to collect additional information but I'm
not sure how to get more useful output than what I included above.

[kwin] [Bug 487208] Full screen apps dim/turn off the screen when invoked under Wayland

2024-05-23 Thread Ricardo J. Barberis
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=487208

--- Comment #8 from Ricardo J. Barberis  ---
Seems definitely that adaptive sync is the issue, if I leave it automatic it
fails like reported, if I enable it (always) the screen immediately goes off,
if I disable it (never) everything seems to work so far.

I even rebooted a couple of times, did a few suspend/resume cycles and the
screen remained on at all times.

I'll keep using wayland without adaptive sync for a few days, see how it
behaves (but I'm really liking it so far!).

I can't test right now but there's a kwin update for Fedora which I was
planning on applying this evening.

If I can still reproduce this after the update, I'll test with and without
adaptive sync and let you know.

1. Press PrintScreen key or launch spectacle some other way
2. Watch the screen dim with no way to recover it

OBSERVED RESULT

EXPECTED RESULT

Screen shoud remain on

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® UHD Graphics

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The first time it happend I connected a secondary monitor, it took its time but
worked, so I at least was able to save my work and close my programs before
rebooting.
Before rebooting I tried disabling the laptop screen from system settings,
modifying the screen brightnes, making the external monitor primary, etc. to no
avail.

Today at home I started experimenting and if I put my laptop to sleep (which
takes longer than usual) it resumes correctly, except if I didn't close
spectacle the screen dims again, so I have to blindly Alt+Tab out of spectacle
before hitting th sleep button.

When invoked from konsole/yakuake (e.g. `spectacle -t`), this message is
repeteadly printed:

```
2024-05-18 Thread Ricardo J. Barberis
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=433171
--- Comment #6 from Ricardo J. Barberis  ---
I have a similar problem on Wayland now which I believe is related to this.
With "Use Open/Retract action to focus window" enabled, F12 never focuses
Yakuake if it's open behind another window, only if it's retracted.
Especially anoying if you have "Keep window open when it loses focus"
(translated from spanish, might be inaccurate) enabled too.
I had to make a window rule to make Yakuake show up in the window switcher for
this reason, and because I'm used to Alt+Tab between Yakuake and my web
browser.
[dolphin] [Bug 455645] Tooltip frequently covers filenames when it appears
2024-03-30 Thread Eddie J Carswell II
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455645
--- Comment #12 from Eddie J Carswell II  ---
In addition, the tooltip could allow you to click "through" it to dismiss it.
Often I'm moving the mouse to interact with an adjacent file, but the tooltip
stubbornly stays in the way. Allowing the user to click through it and reach
the file it's obscuring would be useful. That, and maybe when the cursor leaves
the "hitbox" of the file the tooltip was spawned for, it should be dismissed.
These would make tooltips less annoying, as I find them to be useful/annoying
in equal measure currently.
[Akonadi] [Bug 483060] Akonadi sending UTC timestamps as local time to MySQL (and this failing around DST change) - QMYSQL bug?
2024-03-11 Thread Joshua J. Kugler
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483060
--- Comment #6 from Joshua J. Kugler  ---
When I was debugging this, someone in the #maria IRC channel said:
> As a workaround SQL mode flag ALLOW_INVALID_DATES should help, but it is
> better to store the UTC values properply as UTC.
So, there is that...but that does seem ugly. Can you even specify a TZ on a
TIMESTAMP column in MySQL/MariaDB (it's been too long since I've actively used
MySQL).
Another idea: have Akonadi set the client time zone to UTC when it connects.
BUT: I don't know what that might do to the times it returns in other queries,
so would require investigation, and if code would have to be changed elsewhere.
[Akonadi] [Bug 483061] Akonadi server does not declare UTC times as UTC
2024-03-11 Thread Joshua J. Kugler
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483061
--- Comment #1 from Joshua J. Kugler  ---
It occurred to me this could also cause a problem with receiving e-mail. The
"datetime" column is also a timestamp, and if Akonadi gets an e-mail that was
sent between 2AM and 3AM UTC on a daly light savings change day, it could throw
an error when trying to store it. Possibly resulting in data loss? I'm not
sure.
2024-03-09 Thread Joshua J. Kugler
  Target Milestone: ---
SUMMARY
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Try to access e-mail in a time when you are going to "spring forward" and it
generates an atime with a time between 2AM and 3AM.
OBSERVED RESULT
KMail hangs and gets the dreaded "Retrieving folder contents" hang. This error
is seen in the logs:
Error text: "Incorrect datetime value: '2024-03-10 02:15:10' for column
`akonadi`.`pimitemtable`.`datetime` at row 1 QMYSQL: Unable to execute
statement"
This tipped me off:
https://linustechtips.com/topic/1028839-mariadb-need-help-incorrect-datetime-value-2018-03-25-022324/
Conclusion: Akonadi is inserting time as UTC, but not declaring it UTC, and the
DB server is saying "That's not a valid time in my time zone!" (I'm currently
in Americas/Anchorage).
Yes, I also am a programmer. Yes, I also hate date/time math.
EXPECTED RESULT
Message loads.
