https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=399871 Bug ID: 399871 Summary: folder browsing gets randomly slower without visible reason Product: dolphin Version: 18.08.2 Platform: Archlinux Packages OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: view-engine: general Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: tempel.jul...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY When logging in into a KDE Plasma session and then starting Dolphin, browsing through folders happens with instant speed. But after some time, or at least sometimes, there is a noticeable delay when opening folders inside of Dolphin. This happens at any path with any folder content, also with thumbnailing completely disabled. The delay is not terrible, but it's a bit annoying though. It should be possible to always have instant browsing speed, as e.g. Thunar file achieves this. STEPS TO REPRODUCE Well, that's the problem. I don't see any pattern how to exactly reproduce, apart from being logged in into a Plasma session for a few minutes. OBSERVED RESULT Sometimes folder browsing is instant, sometimes delayed. EXPECTED RESULT Folder browsing should always be instant. As originally stated in https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=385754#c22 Discover can be slow to display the list of packages that need updates. During this time, it displays "no updates available", which is a bit misleading, as can be seen in the aforelinked thread. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Wait for some updates to show up 2. Click on the tray icon -> display updates 3. Wait for a few seconds in front of the "no updates" screen (up to a few minutes, especially on slow connections) for updates to be displayed OBSERVED RESULT Discover is slow to display the list of updates. The user does not receive any feedback during this time. EXPECTED RESULT It would be nice to display something like "Discover is compiling the list of updates" or "Discover is checking for updates", with a spinner.
