KR> Vibrations

2009-05-29 Thread mitch hargin
The fuel venting problem was solved by not filling the header too full.  Now
I'm having some vibration and high RPM's on takeoff.  At around 400 ft the
canopy has a little shake and the motor "seems like" it has a vibration or
gurgle, then the rpm's shoot up from 3000 to 3600.  It feels like a car when
you are driving and push the clutch in without taking the foot off the gas.
Pulling the throttle back and pushing the nose down makes it go away and it
doesn't do it again flying around the area.  It only "seems to" do it on
takeoff.  Carb heat on or off doesn't stop it.  There isn't any shake in the
controls.  Any ideas?

KR> Fuel Venting on Canopy

2009-05-24 Thread mitch hargin
I am test flying a newly purchased Tri Q2.  On rollout fuel started venting all
over the canopy, lots of fuel.  It has a forward facing vent on top of the
header tank close to the canopy.  The header tank guage showed about an inch
from being full.  The main fuel tank cap is not vented.  There is a quarter
turn shut off valve from the header to the main tank which seems to drain fuel
from header to main.  It didn't seem to matter which way it was set.  Also
didn't seem to matter whether the fuel pump was on or off.  Any ideas on what
is causing this?

KR> Discouraging

2008-10-12 Thread mitch hargin
Rick,
I to got the same crap the my local FBO. I went and got a few hours tail
dragging time in a cub and many hours of taxiing in the KR. I've had many good
landing in my KR even with the discouraging words. You can do it but be safe.

KR> Virgil

2008-10-12 Thread mitch hargin
Glad you survived Virgil. You will need the landing strip for the Space
Shuttle if you keep up speeds of 90 over the numbers. Like the others have
said get the speed down to 70 or less over the numbers and you should be ok.
Good Luck.

KR> KR for sale

2008-10-12 Thread mitch hargin
I might be interested in selling one that I have just fixed up and started
flying. N1140V. I really don't want to sell it but I am in the Ukraine now
and may need the money to come back here and stay for awhile. I will be home
next week if you want to talk about it.

KR> Returned to flight status again.

2008-10-12 Thread mitch hargin
KR2 N1140V TOOK OFF AT EXACTLY 8AM SUNDAY MORNING. SHE FLIES GREAT. VERY
RESPONSIVE, SMOOTH, NO FLUTTERS OR VIBRATIONS. FLEW FOR 12 MINUTES. 130 MPH AT
3/4 THROTTLE. I THOUGHT THE OIL TEMP OF 260 WAS HIGH SO I CAME BACK FOR
LANDING. I BOUNCED THE LANDING BUT FELT GOOD ANYWAY. OIL TEMPS HAD COME DOWN
ONCE I QUIT CLIMBING. THE EXHAUST PIPE HAD BROKE ON A BAD WELD AND BURNED A
HOLE IN THE COWL. GOOD THING I DIDN'T FLY LONG. I WILL FIX IT OR PUT A NEW ONE
ON AND TAKE HER UP AGAIN.

Dispite my FBO telling me not to fly her and sell her, she felt very stable.
He does not like small homebuilts and is not giving me too much encouragement.
I would just like to hear from the group with some words of wisdom and
motivation. She didn't scare me any and I am anxious to get her back in the
air but he is giving me second thoughts.
  Thanks,
  Mitch

KR> Taxi test on KR2

2008-10-12 Thread mitch hargin
I have reconditioned a KR2 and I am performing taxi tests on her. She has a VW
1835cc motor with a Sturba Prop. I had her up to 70mph indicated today. She
tracked nicely down the runway. Would she have lifted off if I had pulled back
on the stick? I have read many web sites on the KR and I have missed what her
takeoff speed is. Thanks,
  Mitch
