taper at 2 1/2 inches 6 feet long. I think I have a picture somewhere hold it

Anyone interested in Legacy's Design Kits?

2015-12-30 Thread John Sasinowski
I found two of them while cleaning out my house.
Neither has been used - and given my current propensity for working in CAD
when I need to produce drawings, I don't see myself using them.

For those who may not be familiar with them, they include:

   - A long, somewhat narrow pad of ruled paper for working out normal
   'turnings'
   - A square pad of polar-ruled paper for rotary table work.
   - A set of plastic templates that provide the profiles of many Magnate
   tool bits
   - A videotape and instructions

I only have one box, so I'd prefer they both went to the same new home.

If you're interested, please contact me off-list.
Cover the shipping costs, and they're yours! :-)

Man this sit is so cool!!! I gots to get me one of them! You probably
thought about this but you could use a photo laser tachometer to verify
your rpms, I use one on my lathe and it works great. Just be careful with
the import stuff, some of them are garbage. Thanks for the pictures.

2015-12-30 Thread CURTIS GEORGE
Hello and good morning Bill.
That turn table is nice, but Its also much heaver and bulkier then what the
Legacy needs.
I believe that Harbor fright tools sells a turn table for something like $70.00
( but I cant find it on there web site.)
http://kittstools.securesites.net/store/rotary_tables.html#5822 here is a link
to one of my favorite tool supply stores. Again all tables are HEAVY! and I
honestly think a home made unit like what you posted earlier would work just as
well as any of these steel industrial milling table. "but to each there own."
It cant hurt to try.
Have a good day.

Re: template for dayton motor mount to 1200 and dc motor controller

2015-12-30 Thread rookie
Greetings to all of you, been out of the wood working picture for most of
2015 due to making a major move to Oregon from the Midwest. Here are some
pics of how I approached setting up my own power motor assembly. Found the
controller on ebay, took some patience to wait for the right model at the
right price, in this case a new unit for 75 dollars. Made a hand
controller that works great with my model #900. Good to be in Oregon and
almost up and running with turning wood again.

I attached a couple of pictures of the finished Baseball bats mounted in a
powder coated steel cross mount. I didn't do the finishing but it was a marine
spar varnish rolled and brushed. The wood species is Redwood and started out
as a 6x6 twelve feet in length.

I did mostly the entire project on the mill, except for "cutting corners" on
the table saw. I used my Minimax CU 300 Smart with a 8.5 foot slider to cut
the corners and the rest of the milling was done on the ornamental mill. Easy
but labor extensive after several and many hours and days I now look deformed;
my right arm after cranking for eternity now makes me look like The Hulk. I
know now I should of spent the extra $ and got the cool motor. I am thinking
about up-grading my mill by attaching a squirrel cage on the crank put some pet
fur balls in there and hang a carrot out front. That all equals cheap labor
but the grocery bill might go up.

When it comes to a rotary table, are you looking to be able to index and turn a
piece round?

We had a member that made a very nice one from car parts and custom machined
lasered parts. I think that was back in 2011 maybe. Try a search for "Dusty

  Hello Ernesto and everyone.

I own a Legacy made turn table, And I dont think it would be all that hard to
make a homemade version. I would think a Lazy-Susan ballbaring set with some
kind of gearing would not be all that hard to make. Perhaps a simple hole
indexing system, (holes running around wooden face-plate/turn table.) would
work nicely? http://www.rockler.com/search/go?w=lazy%20susan%20hardware You
could add a gear to the edge if you like to make a lock or movement . The
Legacy's turn table is nothing fancy, Just make your table as compact as you
can, you do not want something that is so bulky that is sticks up to far above
the rails.

Ive got some idea's, perhaps I can make something to show and tell this
afternoon?

  More latter.
