Re: [LegacyUG] Is This a Bug!

2007-05-22 Thread Wayne Martell
No, this was a single woman with no children who had been included in my data
for a couple of years; I had just learned the name of her husband (at least,
the father of her child) and was about to enter him before entering the child.
I tried several times and the name came up each time. I (short-sightedly) did
not try other single women until later but, when I did, the spot came up blank
each time. I believe it was an aberration that will not be explained. Let us
now go on to more important things.

I can only guess if the woman didn't have a father, you accidently
clicked in the blank father box, rather than the large box above her
name. When you click in the father box, it says "Add an Individual" -
it doesn't use the word Father. But when you click on the spouse box,
it asks "Add a Husband." If you had seen the word Father, that would
  have been a red flag.

I also liked Susie's question about the single woman having a child -
did she? Because the spouse may have picked up the child's surname as
his own, too. (And we presume the child has the mother's maiden name.)

Did the single woman have a child? If so then the "father" is possibly
picking up the surname of the child.

Yes, but I'm not sure that I would call it a bug. What you are actually
doing is adding a Father to someone on the pedigree and as that person
has already been given a Surname (presumably), Legacy naturally assumes
that his/her father's Surname is the same.

Re: [LegacyUG] Is This a Bug!

2007-05-21 Thread Susan Daily

Wayne,
Does the Single woman have any other family links? Is she an
unattached person added to the file? (Sounds like the feature when
you select on a blank father's box, it gives the same surname.)

I tried it with both a single male and a single female, but both had a
father and mother attached. In both cases, the data remained blank.
