Re: [LegacyUG] Rookie mistake - how to cite?
Thanks Margaret. That will come in handy, but not for the records I have. They came from mid 1850s German congregation churches in Chicago. But I'll surely use your suggestion. I would search FamilySearch, ancestry, eg. https://familysearch.org/wiki/en/Top_Genealogy_Websites_for_Finding_Ancestors_in_Germany f or the individuals to whom you have the sources attached. :) Margaret On 26 May 2017 at 01:02, Jenny M Benson wrote: > On 25-May-17 03:26 PM, Ed Ladendorf wrote: > >> 1. Re: [LegacyUG] Rookie mistake - how to cite?
Thank you Jenny. Another problem I have is that the events took place in Chicago, and all records except some church records (and other possible private records) were destroyed by the great Chicago fire of 1871, making it harder to find anything before that time period. This thread could be a good lesson for newbies. On Thu, May 25, 2017 at 10:02 AM, Jenny M Benson wrote: > On 25-May-17 03:26 PM, Ed Ladendorf wrote: > >> 1. [LegacyUG] Rookie mistake - how to cite?
1. Quite some time ago, I browsed many, many church records to find 4 records pertaining to my tree. Browsing took many hours. They are written in German, and I can't read most of the information. When I found the records, I cropped the images heavily, only saving a copy of the records themselves. I did not record where I found them. Yesterday I spent an hour or so trying to find the records again, so I could properly cite them, but no luck. Obviously, the events did happen because I have the printed records. But if I can't find them online, surely another person would have a hard, if not impossible time finding them. Since some citing of records is better than none, how can * I cite those elusive records? They pertain to marriages and christenings.* -- LegacyUserGroup mailing list LegacyUserGroup@legacyusers.com To manage your subscription and unsubscribe http://legacyusers.com/mailman/listinfo/legacyusergroup_legacyusers.com Archives at: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/
