I never found a real fix. My work-around was to attach the image in the picture gallery.

The Picture Gallery and Media Gallery really seem quite muddled at times.

I am experiencing EXACTLY the same problem.

My symptoms:

(1)  preferred picture showing in family view

(2) no pictures showing in media gallery

(3) no pictures attached to this person according to picture gallery tool

(4) in media gallery, no events have an * in the drop down indicating no pictures attached for this individual

(5) In settings == Options > customize > 8.9

-checked box for Show the picture

-radio button set All Preferred

-check box set "If there is no picture at all, display a place holder silhouette"

I only seem to have this problem with one individual.  I submitted a support request to look at this.

[LegacyUG] Media Gallery - Copy & Paste version 8.0.0.439

2014-07-28 Thread Corney Keller
Hi All,

Before the 8.0.0.439 update, it was possible to use the copy and paste function
in the Media Gallery for individual and the source
clipboard. By right-clicking on an image one can copy it and then move to
another Gallery and paste it on the empty space. It still
works but only if the Media Gallery is not empty.
In an empty Gallery it does not work anymore. No menu appears when I
right-click. When I add a random picture however, it is once
more possible to right-click and get a menu with all the copy-paste options.

Anyone else have the same problem?

Cheers,

Re: [LegacyUG] media gallery

2014-01-22 Thread Randy Clark
Replying to my own post.
When in Media Gallery with *All Pictures selected it seems that the
uneditables are ones that may only be highlighted when a different option
is selected from the dropdown list in the upper left. A starred item must
be selected. There are several options named *Census. How was the list
populated?
Using the "correct" option it is then possible to select and caption
individual censuses. Except for 1930 census. I've yet to determine which
dropdown item will allow me to work with it.

Randy, you didn't get a reply yet, so I'll take a very wild guess. If I'm
wrong, which I probably am, at least your question will get to the top of the
list for others to see.

My guess would be that the original which was copied to the media folder was a
read only file. To check this out, find the original, highlight it, then right
click to check the properties. This should tell you if it is a read only file,
and if it is, you should be able to take that characteristic off.

[LegacyUG] Media gallery wasted screen space

2014-01-06 Thread Boyd Miller
In the individual's Media Gallery reached from the family screen, the
pictures and other media are arranged in three columns. To get more
pictures visible at one time, they are compressed vertically but not
horizontally.
This leaves a lot of wasted space between each of the three column of
items. I there any good reason for this? With the zoom system in In
L7.5 we had up to five items across the screen, with much less wasted
space. Am I missing something in the L8 picture layout options?

It would be helpful to better utilise the screen space, so that more
pictures can be seen at once. Anyone care to comment?

Boyd
