[LUTE] Gut strings
Dear all, noboby has told us yet by which EU-regulation (kind of [e.g. directive?], year, number, date of publication, article no.) the production of gut strings should be prohibited. By now we only have the personal statement of Mimmo Perufo that "strict European legislation" (?) forbids the production and use of beef gut. Beeing a lawyer (and lutenist) I would appreciate more precise information to verify the statement. Henner -- Dr. Henner Kahlert In der Tasch 2a D 76227 Karlsruhe (Durlach) Tel. 0721-403353 Tel. Does anyone know something about this :-) These are wind instruments. Brass, to be precise, but there are some conflicting theories about what was meant exactly. Our hardcore-hip group is to play BWV118 later in the season, here's the theory on what the parts were written for according to our man (summary: wooden brass!): http://www.barokensembledeswaen.nl/html_e/lituus.html (There are more links at te bottom of that page.) Enjoy your cantata, it's always great to play Bach! [LUTE] Lutes in BWV 118?
Dear all, I just got the score of J. S. Bach "O Jesu Christ, meins Lebens Licht", BWV 118, in which I have to play continuo. I am surprised to see that the score ( edition of Carus Verlag, Stuttgart, 2001 )contains parts for "liuto I and II in Sib/B", in single lines, violin clef, notated in C major - the piece is in Bb-major. Does anyone know something about this piece and the kind of lute for which the music is written? [LUTE] New CD by Claire Antonini
Dear all, after her first solo album, published by the French lute society (Les Luthistes Français au XVIIéme siecle) in 2007, french lutenist Claire Antonini has just released her second solo CD with French music for baroque lute Manuscrit Vaudry de Saizenay which I just got from: http://classique.abeillemusique.com/CD/Classique/ASM004/3760098120048/AS-Musique/Claire-Antonini-luth/Manuscrit-Vaudry-de-Saizenay-(Musique-francaise-pour-luth-baroque)/cleart-32626.html and to which I listened with great pleasure. Claire Antonini is one of the best baroque lute players today. The CD contains 32 peaces from the well known Manuscrit Vaudry de Saizenay, exquisite music, played superbly and powerful on an 11-course lute of Paul Thomson.
