37.08 with the 14.13 shipping. Amazon's $35 is still cheaper. When I
saw the $23 price, I thought it was a good deal, but the 3 times cost

Y'all are missing the whole point of this subject! The issue is not the
filter itself; rather, the K&N sticker! Affixing it to your ride is
GUARANTEED to give you a performance boost! It fits any car, truck,
bus, or aircraft, it is a universal performance booster! It is
FILTER-CHARGED!

I think K&N filters are garbage, but they do enhance performance at the

it otherwise would.

Ah! You are talking about rapid increase in engine RPM. I was
referring to power output - sustained.

So, if you man "it takes longer for the turbo to build pressure"
rather than "it takes longer for the turbo to spool" - I fully
agree.

So a less restrictive filter results in faster spool. I also
found that top end performance was improved, with a higher max
rpm at max throttle. Is isn't even subtle. Taking off from a
stoplight is a different experience.

Hmm. That doesn't match my experience with various diesel turbo
engines. But if your experiences were otherwise, who am I to argue!

When I was a kid maybe 10 or 11, a coupla friends and I were headed over
to a field to play ball or something, and were waiting to cross a fairly
busy street. This clapped-out old brown station wagon comes by and
BOOM! the gas tank falls off the thing, right in front of us, and skids
along the street, sparks flying and gas sloshing out where the filler
tube had been. I guess the only thing, much to our disappointment, that
kept it from blowing up was that it was full. I don't know why the gas
on the street didn't catch far. The car it had been part of coasts to a
stop, and a kinda white trash-looking woman sucking on a Pall Mall or
Marlboro gets out and walks back to take a look at it, looks at us
standing there gawking at this spectacle as boys of that age will do,
and says to us, "Ah lost my gayess tank."

Friends had a very nice looking red Pontiac - 1968 maybe? - somtime back
in the late 1970s. The body looked fine but apparently it had issues
underneath as the transmission mount was rusty and the tranny dropped
onto the roadway on the way to a hockey game. They junked the car rather

started but nothing finished or repaired. His parents I bought the car
from said he was a sewercide case a year before...From what I could
see, it was not much loss. I did feel somewhat sorry for the parents,
but then they raised him, so I figgered their loss was caused in part by

[MBZ] Opera Oops!

2016-08-29 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
"The Opera web browser recently had a security breach that hit their
password manager, Opera Sync. Because of the breach, over 1 million
users had their passwords leaked. If you use Opera, we suggest you
change your passwords right now. Bookmarked pages and site histories
may also have been leaked. Opera isn't really indicating how big the
issue is, possibly because they themselves don't know. When a breach
occurs, there's no way to know if every file has been viewed by the
hacker or just the files showing evidence of the breach.

It's possible that bookmarked pages and site histories have been
leaked; Opera isn't really indicating how big the issue is. They
themselves may not know because there's no way to track what
information hackers have seen. Imagine someone breaking into your home
and leaving no trace that they'd been there.

In an attempt to keep hackers away from passwords, Opera uses a closed
source security system, which means it doesn't allow people to view
the encryption system. Other companies use open source coding because
they want people to be able to find bugs and suggest improvements.
Maybe after this incident, they will consider making a switch."

For those who believe open source is best!

Obviously, this is an excellent example of what not to do. But, I am amazed at
some of the craigslist ads I see. They post one picture at a weird angle. Or
the car is so far away in the picture, it could be a Mercedes or a Cadillac or
a large cow. Or the people that take decent photos, but they don't bother to
pick up the trash. It amazes me that someone goes to the trouble to try to
sell something on the internet and doesn't at least look at other ads and try
to copy what other people are doing. AND spelling? I'm astounded some of the
people writing these ads are able to feed themselves based on the nearly
intelligible language they use. Remember I am a trial attorney. I have dealt
with a lot of stupid people, but the craigslist seller population seems to have
an abundance of people who are incapable of expressing a cogent thought.

Sorry for the rant.

Straddled a woodchuck, heard a hollow 'bong' sound back by the trunk, looked in
the
mirror and saw the marmot stand up, wobble a bit, and fall down dazed or dead.

When I got home, I looked under the car, and one of the two gas tank retaining
straps was
missing, and the tank was tilted down at an angle. Must have bonked the critter
with the low end of the tank. The straps hooked onto the body at the front, and
at the back was a tensing screw in a bracket welded to the trunk floor. On the
right side, where the spare tire sat, there was a rust hole and no tank holding
bracket. And I never drove the Belgian Rust Bucket again. (in the mid 1970s,
every rally replica and sunroof car was made in Belgium, and they were a lot
rustier than the cars made in Sweden. Made me wonder if bare metal body parts
were stamped in Sweden and ocean-shipped to Belgium)

I hit the Cannuck club show and shine this weekend. Diverse group. Old white
guys and younger asian guys. No dames with star cars. Old guys had old cars,
but for the sugar daddy with the gull wing SLS. Asians, as a group had the
flashier newer cars that you can spiff up with tint, audio, rims, weird furry
seats cover animals. No great shakes all around, polite, but you could see
there was no future for the current market of cars becoming collected or driven
once the electronics crap out.

Down the street was the PNW Japanese Auto agglomeration. Must have been a few
hundred cars from far and wide there. From the tiny early roller skate sort to
the thumping, booming, neon endowed cars. The bulk of the classic jap cars
looked to be in top condition and not rat rods. Must be the sheer volume of
cars out there that you could find parts to keep them on the road. Some of
these things were probably not much more complex than lawn mowers anyway, so
most idiots could work on them. Much like the VW Bugs of old.

Coming back home, the roads were packed with Priapus’. Those are the current
bug, just no future in keeping them on the road. Too complex and expensive to
bother

You seem to be applying your great plains/midwestern middle and upper class
standards to a cross section of Americas population. The values that you
consider important; facility with a camera (visual competence), neatness,
cleanliness, deductive reasoning ability, literary competence, education level,
and upper IQ level; aren't common characteristics of the majority.
However, the question of why "average" people buy used luxury cars instead of
less complicated and more sensible cars, still remains. Are they trying to
compensate for their perceived deficiencies?
