Maybe 20yr ago I was using a Milwaukee drill up on a ladder about 15ft to put 
in some screws when I hear what sounded like a gunshot right in my ear. I about 
fell off the ladder. The NiCad or NiMH battery had exploded. 

I got home and called Milwaukee and they sent another one immediately and 
wanted that one back. I then learned that there was a recall on these batteries 
because they would explode. I didn’t report it because they were good about it. 

I went through a bunch of those, they didn’t last long. The last ones were 
chinee I guess. I don’t think they’re available anymore so I have a nice tool 
with no power. I have a nice makita drill like that too and maybe a craftsman.

I remember the discussion of how great the Rigid warranty was a few years ago 
when I was looking at tools.

I've been very happy with my Makita tools, no battery issues yet but I think 
I've only had them (checks blog) 2 years. Time will tell.

Correct.

It used to be that excise tax would plateau at something like 12 years to a 
relatively small amount, like $25. That said, buy a new car and the excise tax 
was $1,000s of dollars. Ouch!

However, I believe it’s far less onerous than it used to be. I think that after 
9 years and being worth less than a couple thousand it’s $12, and for new cars, 
it’s far less expensive, like a maximum of $500 and change. At least that’s 
what I recall from when we bought the house up there a couple of years ago.

Indiana will compute sales tax based on the bill of sale or whatever selling 
price is written on the title.

Annual registration fees include excise tax based on current book value, no 
appeals that I know of but it drops every year until it reaches some minimum.

I have a 96E420 that is

891U - ALEXANDRITE GREEN- METALLIC PAINT which is pretty green but sorta 
dark.  It looks nice.  Same color interior as this car.



I looked at a 210 that was Melanite Green, almost black but with a hint 
of green in the very deep almost metalflake paint which I guess is the 
metallic aspect  It was gorgeous.

I prefer the flat fee based on age, like some states do. I think I pay around 
$40/each for cars in FL. About the same in AZ.

I lost two registration stickers for the AZ ML350. They come to the FL house 
because the FL address is where we’re domiciled. The first one came, I mailed 
it to the youngest son in AZ, but he misplaced it before he could put it on the 
car. No biggie. I go online and buy a replacement for $5. USPS never delivers 
it. I even saw it on my USPS delivery thing.

I go to ADOT and explain why I am now asking for a third registration sticker. 
The nice ADOT lady waives the $5 fee. Nice!

I got a tag renewal bill from the County for $162 on the 12GL450.  We 
pay the County for MV tax and then they pay the DMV and the renewal 
sticker shows up.  The appraised value shown on the bill was $9330.  I 
only paid $4k for it.  I sent in an appeal email yesterday and this 
morning it got knocked down to $88 which I guess is reasonable.  Most of 
my other vehicles being much older are like $12 or maybe $30 every other 
year which has something to do with how the tax is assessed or

While it’s still roughly 300 miles to the southwest of Tampa at this point, the 
models are pretty solid that it’s going to move pretty much directly north on 
its track. We’re outside the “cone” but will see some effects. Not a big 
concern at this point.
