Re: [MBZ] I guess early 123 diesels did have pull start knobs
On snowmobiles after about 1975 the "choke" is actually a fuel enrichner. The "choke" lever opens another jet from the carb into the intake. It doesn't actually choke (limit air) at all, it adds fuel... -Curt On Sunday, February 28, 2021, 10:15:44 PM EST, Dwight Giles via Mercedes wrote: Yes "that is the 'choke" Dwight Giles Jr. Wickford RI On Sun, Feb 28, 2021, 9:05 PM OK Don via Mercedes wrote: > The "choke" in my W115 cars was an idle speed control - more idle speed for > starting instead of a bit of pedal with your foot. > > On Sun, Feb 28, 2021 at 7:51 PM Allan Streib via Mercedes < > mercedes@okiebenz.com> wrote: > > > I don't know what a "pull start knob" is but what is a "choke" on a > > diesel? > but what is a "choke" on a diesel? You used it _like_ a choke knob. It increased idle speed, like most choke knobs also do, but did not affect mixture in any way. If it looks like a choke, and quacks like a choke... It was for better _running_ at cold start, not starting per se. It's so it wouldn't die when you took your foot off the pedal, before the engine had started to warm up. -- Jim ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

My 1976 300D had one of those knobs. Randy's should as well. The "choke" in my W115 cars was an idle speed control - more idle speed for starting instead of a bit of pedal with your foot. Re: [MBZ] I guess early 123 diesels did have pull start knobs
I don't know what a "pull start knob" is but what is a "choke" on a diesel? Diesels operate on a surplus of air so how does a choke help with starting? My 300SD has an idle adjustment knob but that's not what I'd call a choke. Allan Dwight Giles via Mercedes writes: > I never saw one on a 123. Yes, all US cars had key start. This must be a euro thing. Sent from my iPhone > On Feb 28, 2021, at 5:37 PM, Peter Frederick via Mercedes > wrote: > > Not a US model. Not a US model.
