I think they may have made a 200SL in 68 but there is very little info on
em, this was probably only sold in the UK where they have a liking for
underpowered sports cars.

Sorry-that wasn't clear to me-when we started with 200SL-I went as low as we
could go-230Sl.

This one was near the waterfront on Montgomery, and it was silver. I'm not
sure of the type of tranny, didn't get to climb inside, unfortunately.

While we were walking today in downtown Portlend, my wife spotted a
Mercedes. When she told me that it was a 200SL, I figured that she had
misread the numbers so I decided to check for myself. Yes indeedee, it was
a 200SL! . Was it really possible to get a Euro 107 with a 4 cylinder? I
suppose one could tamper with the badging, but it looked legit.

I don't think so. The smallest displacement SL I've seen here is a 280SL

a 200SL

[MBZ] Rare Mercedes SL model

2007-05-07 Thread Glenn Brown

Kevin,
As someone else has already intimated, the rare Mercedes SL which you saw,
if indeed it was a W107 body style, was a 280SL which were made from '74-'85
and not imported to the U.S. as far as I know (See pg. 140, Mercedes-Benz
Production Models Book 1946-1990, by W. R. Nitske.

Right-except if it was a w113 it could have been a 230-50-80SL, also acc. to
Nitske. However, he lists no 200SL at all.

I'm certain that it was a W107 chassis, not a W113.

I have often seen a W107 280SL in downtown Portland as well. One
particular one, I mean---red with a stick shift, parked at the south
end of town near the KOIN Tower (2nd and Market or so).
