Re: a fanless board with msata

2015-08-29 Thread Henri Kemppainen
 I have been searching for a while for a fanless motherboard
 to use as my OpenBSD workstation with reasonable performance.

 The board should be a mini-ITX form factor
 so that I can use it in this enclosure that I like.
 http://www.mini-box.com/M350S-enclosure-with-picoPSU-80-and-60W-adapter

 There is a barebone system from Shuttle DS437 that fits your
 requirements. I don't know it so I can not tell if it works as
 workstation.

I am using the Shuttle DS437 as a desktop, with an mSATA SSD, and it works
really well. However, it probably isn't what Jan is looking for, since
it can only take one additional 2.5 disk. The board's form factor also
probably isn't mini-ITX, so you're stuck with the case Shuttle put it into
(which I'm ok with).

For better quality (no modulo bias) random values, pkg_add ranval.
Uses OpenBSD's arc4random family of functions. Because of this, it
doesn't open devices (easy to build into a static binary and use in
chroots).

5.7 installer: 'tar: Unable to remove directory'

I played about with manually allocating /var/tmp in a 5.7 install.

I dunno if it's anything to worry about.

Here's hoping a script(1) log doesn't bugger up this mail formatting...:

yeah. /var/tmp (the directory) has been replaced by a symlink to /tmp.
 Your machine already has a directory where baseXX tried to drop a symlink.

This is fixed when you follow the upgrade57.html and follow these two lines:
rm -r /var/tmp
ln -s /tmp /var/tmp

That explains it! Ta.

Earlier installs on this box gave:
Cannot determine prefetch area. Continue without verification? [no]

From /usr/src/distrib/miniroot/install.sub I noticed if any of
/tmp /var/tmp /home /usr /usr/local were larger than 512Mb,
the verification would be done in there:

# Find a filesystem to store the prefetched sets. Prefer file-
# systems which are not used during extraction. They need to
# have 512 MB free space. Otherwise use any other filesystem
# having 2 GB free space to prevent overflow during extraction.
_tmpfs=$( (
for fs in /mnt/{{,var/}tmp,home,usr{/local,}}; do
df -k $fs 2/dev/null | grep  $fs\$
done
df -k
) | (
while read a a a a m m; do
[[ $m ==
/mnt/@(@(|var/)tmp|home|usr/@(src,obj,xobj))@(|/*) ]]
((a  524288))  echo $m  exit
[[ $m == /mnt@(|/*) ]]
((a  524288 * 4))  echo $m  exit
done
) )

if [[ -d $_tmpfs ]]; then
! _tmpsrc=$(tmpdir $_tmpfs/sets)
_issue=Cannot create prefetch area  break
else
_issue=Cannot determine prefetch area  break
fi

So I added an obsolete /var/tmp increased /usr/local to see what would happen.

Cheers.

tried to install 5.8 current a few days ago and got the same issue. Today I
had some time available to replace the hard disk with a working seagate 1.5Gb

For anybody
interested I'm getting a lot of stuff showing up as not configured
including: smh-doorbell, smh-interrupt, programmer switch, slewing done,
amp-mute, combo-out-sense, hw-reset, internal-speaker-id, internal-mic-id,

I'm doing this as a learning
experience. If the macppc dev are interested in digging into this tell me,
otherwise I reached a wall I cannot break. Could be that the motherboard is a
bit flakey but I cannot understand why it is possible to run Mac OS 10.5 on
this machine if it's got such hardware problems.

The

non-official channels for support, google+/facebook OpenBSD communities, etc,
although I don't know that there are a lot of people willing to invest time in
