Re: [MOPO] And now appearing ... shirtless!
Take a good look at THE MALTESE FALCON. Isn't the portrait of Bogart from HIGH SIERRA...he sure doesn't seem to be in Philip Marlowe drag. And some of the material for LAURA , using the portrait of Gene Tierney with her hand extended, is from RINGS ON HER FINGERS. I think this is on the half-sheet or the title lobby card for LAURA. Re: [MOPO] And now appearing ... shirtless!
On every US movie poster issued for The Maltese Falcon, with the exception of the Window Card (and possibly the 6-Sheet?), Bogart appears as "Mad Dog" Roy Earle, the part from "High Sierra" that put him on the map earlier that year. That's why for many Bogart collectors, believe it or not, the Window Card is the most sought after US poster on the film... Rick In a message dated 1/3/2011 7:20:02 P.M. To answer 2): The most notorious example is Warner Bros using the image of Bogie from High Sierra on the Maltese Falcon paper.
