thanks... too complicated but as i said, "I AINT DOIN' IT"? !!!?? risky on a good poster if you never did it before.?? as my orig post stated...i was curious about a specific fold line on one poster. thanks michael -Original Message- From: Dario Casadei <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: MoPo-L@LISTSERV.AMERICAN.EDU Sent: Fri, 26 Sep 2008 4:21 pm Subject: Re: [MOPO] fold lines.......pastel pencils? Hi Michael, That is funny. Such a vocal anti Linen and restoration guy, now you want to do your own restoration. You need help ( no pun ) So please let me help you!! :-) Pastel pencils are not cool. Please use water color pencils, like the one's Sue recommended ( brand Prisma colors ) or you can use Faber Castell? Albrecht Durer my preferred choice for work. Going over a rough fold might be very tricky not having the poster backed and the folds made flush. So you need to buy some archival Methyl Cellulose from lineco http://www.lineco.com/item.cfm?itemnum=793-1001 Follow the instruction and ad another 1/2 of cellulose to make it really thick. You need a small rectangular piece of Mylar and a fine brush. Brush the fold lightly, lay the mylar over it. Use a? burnishing tool, apply pressure, walk the line, remove mylar, wipe excess Cellulose, let it dry, color in. Pretty easy stuff. Best, dario. Re: [MOPO] fold lines...............pastel pencils?
Hello All, Ocassionally I have a poster that does not need the full advantage of Sylvia's work. I touch them up with a kit of pencils I have from Prismacolor. One little trick I saw Sylvia do years ago with the same pencil kit was to sharpen the tip and then dip in in linseed oil, I believe her intent was to soften the lead so that it applied more evenly. Now, she didn't have the linseed oil dripping off of the pencil and she dabbed in on a rag before applying but that is how I do it and it works great. I wouldn't suggest dipping in the oil and then doing a section of white or light colored. Usually touch up with pencils is for darker areas anyway as there are never light enough pencils in my kit for very light areas. michael, do you have any art/drawing/shading experience? if not, and you simply go out and decide to "color over" fold lines, etc. you will make them look worse. jeff On Sep 25, 2008, at 7:54 PM, Michael B wrote: any suggestions to minimize the distraction of fold lines on half sheets and inserts? i am talking about heavy folds.. pastel pencils??? non- oil base, i assume???
