Re: [MOSAIC] Reading Recovery
Criteria would be different for different schools and school districts. Generally the bottom 20% of the total # of 1st grade students are administered Marie Clay's Observation Survey which includes 6 tasks. Students are chosen based on the results of these tasks. [MOSAIC] writing persuasive
There is a series of lessons on the tools page by Sandi about word choice/sentence fluency/persuasive writing that refers to a "Persuasive word chart". I don't see the chart, though, and would like to know if I am missing something. If anyone has anything like that would you please direct it my way. Perhaps Sandi could also tell me what she was referring to. Thanks in advance for any help. Kindejane, can you explain to me how these young children did research on the internet? Your idea sounds wonderful, but I just can't picture it. Thanks. From: "kinderj...@aol.com" To: mosaic@literacyworkshop.org Sent: Thursday, September 24, 2009 7:37:20 PM Subject: Re: [MOSAIC] advanced kinders I had two children in my kindergarten two years ago who were way ahead. They did "research" projects and created books about what they learned to share with the class. One was about burros since one of them was getting a burro as a pet. They read books and I printed information off of the Internet. They wrote and illustrated an informational book about what they learned. I took it to Staples and made them each a copy. They did some other books, too, but I kept a copy of the burros book so that is what sticks in my mind. They always chose their own topic and worked well together. [MOSAIC] advanced kinders
Does anyone have any ideas for working with 2 advanced Kindergartners who are able to read end of 1st grade level according to the DRA? Our classroom reading progam is Macmillan Treasures which teaches a lot of phonics in Kindergarten. These children don't need this and must be bored sitting through this although teachers also include quite a bit of literature. We are looking for some things these 2 girls could do more independently while the other children are learning letters and sounds. We do have a TAG teacher but 1/2 hour once a week will just be enough time to get them started on something. [MOSAIC] persuasive writing
We are going to be doing some persuasive writing in both 2nd and 3rd grade. I am wondering now if anyone can recommend any picture books that have a theme of persuading or even a section of the book being about a character trying to persuade another character to go along with his opinion.
