Re: [mou-net] Cinnamon Teal not present
Donn Mattsson and I saw the cinammon teal today (Monday) after a long time searching . At around 5:00 tonight we located him at the end of the small stream which flows along the left side of the first field to the north of the farmhouse. We had originally seen a few ducks back in there on land by the tree, but could not see enough of them to make an ID. Eventually the cinammon teal stepped out, was quite visible, swam for a bit in the water, then went back up on land. We gave it a good hour of searching with scopes at both wet areas north and south of the farmhouse. We also checked out the wet area further south on the east side of the road but had no luck. There must have been between 400-500 Bonaparte's Gulls present, which were interesting. Also present were many yellowlegs of both species, and in the eastern flooded field, there were at least 3 Pectoral Sandpipers. I'd be very interested in hearing if the teal is relocated! [mou-net] Cinnamon Teal, Carver County
The Cinnamon Teal was still present as of 9:30 a.m. today (Monday April 19th). Thanks to Bob Eckert for helping me find the bird. Located on Salem Avenue, 1.5 miles south of highway 212 on the west side of the road. The teal was present fly between both sides (north & south) of the farmhouse at the top of the hill. Sometimes in water, sometimes in grass, sometimes in the dry rows of last year's harvest. [mou-net] Early Grasshopper Sparrow, etc. Dakota
4/19 John Hockema and I watched a singing GRSP at the Great River Industrial Park near Randolph. This is my first April record for this species. Also had both meadowlarks singing very close to each other. At Lake Byllesby we found a single Baird's Sandpiper and one American Golden-Plover. [mou-net] Cinnamon Teal
The Cinnamon Teal was seen today at approx 7AM in the field south of the dairy farm and north in the flooded cornfield. The sun was at my back by the flooded cornfield and I had fantastic looks at the Cinnamon Teal. It was right next to the road. I would like to thank Sue Schumacher for directing to the correct location on Salem Avenue and John Cyrus for the original post. [mou-net] MRVAC meeting Thursday
The April meeting of MRVAC will be at the newly remodelled Minnesota River Valley Wildlife Refuge Visitors Center 3801 American Blvd, Bloomington, this Thursday (4/22) at 7pm and will feature Mark Lenarz of the Minnesota DNR talking on "Moose, Another Victim of Climate Change?" Meetings are free and open to the public. "Both summer and winter temperatures are increasing throughout the Great Lakes region. Concurrent with the temperature change, moose numbers throughout northern Minnesota are on the decline. Is this coincidence or is there reason to believe there is a link. I will discuss research conducted in Minnesota since 1995 that suggests warming temperatures are the ultimate cause for the declining moose populations." When: Please join us at 7:00 pm to socialize over coffee and cookies from 7:00 to 7:30 pm. A brief business meeting and the featured speaker begin at 7:30 pm. The meeting will conclude before 9:00 pm. Directions: Take the 34th Avenue exit (same exit as the Humphry Terminal) form I-494 and head south to American Blvd (80th Street) and turn east (left). Follow the road around to the Visitor's Center on the right.
