Re: [mythtv-users] mythtv newbie needs help: ATI TV-wonder and badvisual quality
There is a script out there called "findtvcardoptions.sh" that you can use. It will cycle through all the possible tuner settings for the bt8x8-based cards and display the result using xawtv. Once you find the one that works, it will insert the appropriate lines into your /etc/modprobe.conf file. Unforunately, I can't see to find the URL for the file. http://www.mind.lu/users/yg/ftvco/ ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
Re: [mythtv-users] Pre-buffering pauses on Toshiba 4300 laptop
From: "Chris Rouch" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> My compaq M700 (P3-700MHZ, 256MB) shows the same symptoms. Additionally if I use mplayer with '-zoom -fullscreen' sound and vision quickly go out of sync, and it complains that my system is too slow. My guess is that laptops as slow as mine (and yours) really are too slow for this kind of task. I'd agree with you there if it weren't for the fact that my Dell laptop (P3-600, 256M, S3 Savage/IX) which is very similar to the Toshiba seems to be able to play these clips perfectly fine. I did some playing around, dropped the X colour depth to 15 bit, and now have ~15% idle time on my cpu when playing myth recordings. Unfortunately I'm still getting pre-buffering pauses. Looking at the "-v playback" logs from mythfrontend I see that the audio begins to lag by a few frames then the pre-buffering pause will hit. I wonder if there may be a problem with audio (yamaha chip) or the machine is RAM starved (192MB). Time to dig through the ALSA archives and hunt for some more RAM for the laptop (although something tells me 192MB was the maximum RAM this machine could take). Still looking for ideas, Shawn Flynn ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
[mythtv-users] Pre-buffering pauses on Toshiba 4300 laptop
I am currently trying to setup an old laptop as a frontend only box for my MythTV system (details below). Everything is installed and running ok, except that I get pre-buffering pauses when I try to playback any of my recordings. Looking at 'top' it appears that the cpu is being pegged at 100% during video playback (65% mythfrontend, 35% X). This laptop _should_ be fast enough to playback the videos as I can play them back on another frontend with a slower processor. Can anyone offer some suggestions as to where to look to improve performance for this machine? Toshiba Sattelite 4300 Pro, P3-600, 192MB RAM, S3 Savage/IX Fedora 3 and Mythtv 0.17 installed using Jarod's most excellent guide. Using internal LCD panel @ 1024x768 as display (Laptop has TV-Out but I won't be using it) xvinfo tells me that XV is running for the Savage/IX video Video clips being played are [EMAIL PROTECTED] mpg2 captured with a PVR250. Video clips are ok as I can play them with my celeron 533/ATi Rage frontend machine without pauses. Any suggestions for troubleshooting this? Re: [mythtv-users] remote *receiver* ?
I definitely don't use that remote. The only reason I bought that remote was for the serial IR adapter. It has an obscenely long cable and just plain works. I use the 15-2117 (same as the 15-2116 but with UHF - they discontinued it.) from Radio Shack. It is an *awesome* JP1 programmable universal remote. -- John Sturgeon <>< I had already read how terrible a remote the PB one was before I bought the kit. Like you, the plan was to just use the receiver. I tested with the PB remote and an RCA 4in1 Universal remote (set to RCA vcr mode and a few other random manufacturers). When I rebuild my testbox, I'll try again with several of the remotes I have sitting around (I swear these things are breeding whenever I put them away in the cupboard. There always seems to be twice as many remotes in the box as the last time I looked). I'm afraid to buy a JP1 remote. It would just entice me into building a programming cable for it and waste away far too much time playing with the new toy. :-| Shawn Flynn ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
Re: [mythtv-users] remote *receiver* ?
I use my TiVo remote with the packard bell receiver with no problems... It might be the remote you were trying to use with the receiver. I could not get the pacbell thing to get anything off my RCA remote. It's a pos (the IR receiver) and doesn't recognize all remotes. I'm guessing the RCA is slightly non-standard or something. -- Mathew Mrosko Hmmm... good data point. It was the Packard Bell remote (a real _POS_) and an RCA universal remote that I was using to test with. Neither would be properly detected. Best I could get was a raw mode capture in irrecord, and even that wasn't consistent between capture attempts. I'll break out my "big basket of remotes" and try a few from different manufacturers this time. Re: [mythtv-users] remote *receiver* ?
Buy one of those cheap PC Remote's with serial IR Receiver on e-bay for like 7 bucks, throw the remote away, and get a 15-2116 from Radio Shack. I've done it three times for different machines. Here's a link to what I'm talking about: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3761&item=5181277468&rd=1 I have one of those Packard Bell remotes and could never get it to work properly with LIRC. Granted, that was just prior to the Lirc 0.7 release while lirc was having a fair bit of trouble playing well with FC2 and I'm not exactly a linux expert, so it is not surprising that I couldn't make it work. I'd like to give it a shot again. Would you mind sharing your configuration info with me? What version of lirc are you using, what does your lircd.conf look like, what does your modprobe.conf look like? ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
Re: [mythtv-users] audio preceeds image while watching TV
From: "Bart Coninckx" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> there seems to be a difference of about 2 second in between the audio and the image of my Mythtv setup (audio comes first). I use a BT878 based TV-card. Anyone any clue? Asked and answered many times on the list. Search the archives[1] and check the Configuring Sound section of the MythTV HowTo[2] What you need to do is to mute the "line-in" of your sound card and also set it as the recording source. You are currently listening to the input for the recording of LiveTV rather than the time-delayed playback. All explained in the HowTo[2] and Wiki[3] [1] http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/ [2] http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-7.html [3] http://www.mythtv.info/moin.cgi/SoundSyncHowTo ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
Re: [mythtv-users] Recycled PC as a frontend- disapointment?
When I run lspci I get the following VGA Compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc 3D Rage IIC AGP (Rev 7a) There is no entry in the XFree86.0.log for: (II) Loading extension XVideo The output of xvinfo is: "no adaptors present" I checked out the gatos site, but wasn't clear what to do with the info there. Yep. You'll need to install the gatos ati.2 drivers in order to get Xv to work on that setup. I have a similar machine that I press into service every once in a while. It's a Celeron 500 with an onboard ATI RageIIc. It played video at 1 frame per second until I installed the gatos drivers. Now it's capable of playing 480x480 mpg4 nuv files in Myth without dropping frames. To install the binary drivers, go to http://gatos.sourceforge.net/ati.2.php and follow the instructions under the "Installing ati.2 binaries" heading. It's as simple as downloading the appropriate tarball, unpacking it to the correct location and restarting X. If I can do it, anyone can :-) Shawn Flynn ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
