I *think* I'm a little closer, but still somewhat struggling after
playing with this a few hours. Is there a way to tell Myth to use
specific audio PIDs? I can't seem to find a way to do this and
worked through a number of channels as you described above, but am not
sure what else I can give myth outside of the PIDs themselves.

I do get sound when playing back from mplayer something I cat from
dvr0. The catch is that if I play back I really have to specify
-ac hwac3 for mplayer. This got me thinking that maybe Myth is
not pasing AC3 out to my spdif port. I *do* have the MythTV
option to pass AC3 turned on and I'm using the .asoundrc from Jarod's
site with mixed digital for ALSA.

Is anyone else sending AC3 from a DVB stream over SPDIF? If so, what does your .asoundrc look like?

Thanks,

To confirm that I'm not crazy, I recorded a show in Myth and played it

ALSA:spdif, I get no sound. If I uncheck the box in Myth to do
AC3 passthrough, I *also* get sound, but of course no AC3.

I'm still investigating, but I'm curious if anyone with a HD-3000 is outputing AC3 over spdif?

I am.

been able to pass any ac3 stream through the spdif on your SBLive through say

the Live! is fine for spdif, so maybe asking in a seperately titles post for

Yeah Ive done this.

My audio device is ALSA: IEC958, and my
iec958 mode is PCM. Works fine if I enable the AC3 Pass Thru TV Setting,
only messed up thing is no mixer (use receivers volume controls).

For this I use my standard onboard audio
chipset Via 8237. I do this with two HD3000s, 1 on QAM 1
on ATSC OTA.

Thanks to everyone so far - so here's where I am:
- I have gotten tzap to pick up a station
- I have successfully done a cat from /dev/dvb/... while using tzap and
have played it back in mplayer. Yay! At least I know the card
works now! Huge relief...

The last step seems to be getting Myth to bring up an HD station.
When I do it goes to a black screen and bombs back to the menu.
I'm wondering if this is a default station problem perhaps? I'm
not sure what notation I should use for setting a default... ie. 25 or
25_1 for example.

So close - any ideas?

have you scanned channels in mythtv-setup? Mythtv is a separate setup
from the azap, etc.
Running azap (or tzap) to obtain channels.conf is great to make sure
you have the card working and getting the right channels for your
location. But, setting up the channels in mythtv requires scanning in
mythtv-setup.

Instead of watching liveTV, try recording an OTA HD channel from the program.

I have HD video in Myth and it's sweet looking! Thanks to everyone. Although, of course...

I have no sound :( Do I have to run a cable from the back of the
HD-3000 or is it embedded in the stream and something else is
wrong? Sometimes it cackles when I switch channels, but other
than that nothing. My PVR-250 and 500 both have audio going just
fine though. Is there some special config I have to do to get the
audio out from the board?

I am running audio out over SPDIF to an older SBLive - is it possible
my sound card is too crappy? I see a lot of pre-buffering audio
messages on the frontend.

Thanks again,

You shouldn't need a cable, it should be embedded. When you cat the dvr0
device do you get sound with mplayer?

Its possible that your somehow attached/tuned to the wrong audio stream.
You have both a audio and a video pid that you need to connect to. You
can see those streams when you use dvbtraffic from dvb-apps after you've
just tuned to the channel frequency. I had to go out and manually put
them together on a frequency where I recieved 3 channels here in phx.

When you look at that channels.conf you should see the 2 numbers at the
end. Thats the decimal value of video:audio. So if you convert those to
hex you should see what stream it is connected to.from dvbtraffic. You
should sort of know which ones are the video and which ones are the
audio by the bandwidth. Usually you'll have something with a lot of
bandwidth and thats the video, and after that you have soemthing with
less bandwidth and thats audio. But that isn't always the case. I had to
manually pull them apart until I matched it up in mythtv. But you
shouldn't have to do any of this with OTA.. Normally it just scans
them and gets it right I think. But I get crappy signal to our towers
out here so I hanv't really had the chance to do it the 'easy way'.

On your tv playback option... Turn on extra audio buffering on the first
screen. I think that might get rid of your crackling.

- I have done mythtvsetup and successfully scanned channels and mapped
them to my Zap2It config
- Using a tool on the pcHDTV site, I can scan and detect channels over
ATSC with the card. At least I know it's *working*.

At this point I can't cat anything on /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0 - nothing
shows up. I've removed all cards in Myth and am just trying this one
but I get a black screen and then it comes back shortly thereafter to
the main menu. At this point I'm just not sure what to do... for some
reason with these changes I can also not get my second PVR-500 tuner
to work, but I'm less worried about that right now. I'd really like
to see some HDTV come through the new board!

Here's what I have in my modprobe.conf:
# ivtv modules setup
alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-81-0 ivtv
alias char-major-81-1 ivtv
alias char-major-81-2 ivtv
alias char-major-81-3 cx8800
alias tuner tuner-ivtv
alias msp3400 msp3400-ivtv
install cx88-dvb /sbin/modprobe cx8800;/sbin/modprobe --ignore-install
cx88-dvb

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Chris

When you have your channels.conf setup and tune to one, are you getting
a lock before you try to cat the device? In one console you need to be
seeing something like this.

./azap -r XETV
tuning to 62700 Hz
video pid 0x, audio pid 0x
status 00 | signal a28e | snr fb73 | ber | unc |
status 1f | signal 04dc | snr fce9 | ber | unc |
FE_HAS_LOCK
status 1f | signal 04dc | snr fd21 | ber | unc |
FE_HAS_LOCK
status 1f | signal 0936 | snr fd19 | ber | unc |
FE_HAS_LOCK
status 1f | signal 0936 | snr fcf9 | ber | unc |
FE_HAS_LOCK

Once you see something like that and it locks onto the stream, you
should be able to cat dvr0 at the same time and get a readable HD file.
(make sure you don't have mythbackend running and holding onto the dvb
card like it does) But you have to see the lock otherwise it isn't going
to give you anything.

Also the only thing I have in my modules.conf. (but /etc/modutiles/ivtv
in my case with debian sarge and 2.6.14.4 and ivtv 4.1) is

alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-81-0 ivtv
alias char-major-81-1 ivtv
alias char-major-81-2 ivtv

My system runs a PVR-350 and PVR-500 and a HD-3000 so pretty much the
same thing you have. (although I use QAM instead of OTA) This post
helped me when I was first trying to do it with OTA. (and you seem to
know about the tveeprom.ko from the kernel instead of ivytv)
