Re: [Newbie]RedHat 7.3, S3 Trio64V+ and Sampo Alphascan 411: monitor turns off if I try 24 bit mode
You may get the same result without going back to 6.2 by forcing the install program to select X 3.3.6 (I believe there is a preferx3 or something like that in the conf parms) This is what I did for an antique laptop with RH 7.2, it runs nice and accelerated with X 3.3.6 and hideously slow with 4.1 and vesa... You could have a look in /usr/X11R6/bin to see whether there are a few XF86_whatever (these being the 3.3.6 servers) if there is one you recognise as you old friend (often XF86_SVGA possibly XF86_S3) Then it suffices to change /etc/X11/X from a symlink to /usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86 (the X 4.x.x server) to /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_whatever and to ask Xconfigurator to generate the apropriate XF86Config Lionel --- Diego Cardinali [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: - Original Message - From: Lionel Lecoq [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, October 25, 2002 4:57 PM Subject: Re: R: R: R: [Newbie]RedHat 7.3, S3 Trio64V+ and Sampo Alphascan 411: monitor turns off if I try 24 bit mode I use depth 24 (theoretically identical to 32...) you could try that, but I am puzzled by your first error message: Symbol xf86InterpretEDID etc. possibly someone else may help there... During installation you don't get the final resolution unless you use the test option. If your problem is that you get the wrong resolution automatically then go into your XF86Config (resp. XF86Config-4 if that's what your distro uses) and then go to the screen section, there you will find one or several display subsection and possibly a default resolution. I would remove the 1024x768 from the mode line for the 32 (24?) resolution and if you don't have one I would create a display subsection for 16bit with 1024x768 in order to have the choice between 800x600 at 24 and 1024x768 at 16 If you don't know how to do it scream and I will post an example... [snip entire irrelevant digest] Hi, I've retitled your post with a more informative subject. This will help anyone else that uses a search engine to find answers. Please do not Reply to posts if you are not answering or asking a question specifially related to them. Start a new thread instead by composing a mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with an appropriate subject line. Please do not quote material unrelated to your post. You quoted the entire digest which means that everyone on this list got a HUGE mail from you which didn't help you or them. Now, on to your question. Do you have a section like this in your /etc/X11/XF86config?: Section Files # RgbPath is the location of the RGB database. Note, this is the name of the # file minus the extension (like .txt or .db). There is normally # no need to change the default. # Multiple FontPath entries are allowed (they are concatenated together) # By default, Red Hat 6.0 and later now use a font server independent of # the X server to render fonts. RgbPath /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/rgb FontPath unix/:7100 EndSection If you don't then you might want to try running redhat-config-xfree86 --reconfig on the commandline as root. If you do, then do you have a firewall running on the machine or an overly-restrictive tcpwrapper setting with /etc/hosts.deny? [Newbie]Trident + Ogle
Hi folks, Just joined the list so be gentle. I did search the last 6 months of newbie archives before I posted this question. I've got a Compaq Presario 1200 laptop with a Trident CyberBlade i7 and DVD. Under stock RH 7.2 I could play DVDs just fine. When I installed a fresh RH 8.0 (overwrite not upgrade) I get a distorted DVD image now. The screen is split in the middle with the left and right sides transposed. The right side also has horizontal bars. The folks who make the Ogle player seem to know this. See FAQ 36 here for example... http://www.dtek.chalmers.se/groups/dvd/faq.shtml I did download the trident_drv.o file from Alan's page but it did not help. I also note that it's smaller than the one that came with RH 8.0. Any ideas? Thanks, Dan -- Dr. Daniel B.
