I'm
getting the same "modem is busy" message in Linux-mandrake7.1. I believe the
reason to be because I have a "soft" modem which is not supported by Linux O.S.
Like you I'm a complete newbie [only 18 months with Windows 98] and the only
solution that occurs to me is to change the modem. Perhaps someone more
knowledgeable will be able to give us both an opinion on this through the
list.

installed Mandrake 7, when trying to get online it comes with message modem
is busy. I havent start any pro which would use
modem.

Please, treat me like newbie! While reading the post, Ive found that your
definition of newbie is some kind different than what I thought of it. I AM
TOTALLY NEW TO LINUX! And 9 years of windows experience dont help
much!
