Hi Victor,

I'm getting the same "modem is busy" message in Linux-mandrake7.1. I believe the reason to be because I have a "soft" modem which is not supported by Linux O.S. Like you I'm a complete newbie [only 18 months with Windows 98] and the only solution that occurs to me is to change the modem. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable will be able to give us both an opinion on this through the list.

Regards
Clive Deeming.

Subject: [newbie] Modem's busy

Hi everybody!

Does anybody know how to deal with following trouble:

I’ve installed Mandrake 7, when trying to get online it comes with message “modem is busy”. I haven’t start any pro which would use modem.

Victor.

PS. Please, treat me like newbie! While reading the post, I’ve found that your definition of newbie is some kind different than what I thought of it. I AM TOTALLY NEW TO LINUX! And 9 years of windows experience don’t help much!
