Is it possible to include a second XML-File (for the missing
commands) in the process which generates 'setup-en.pdf'? I don't like
to mix this.

With texshow there was an option to include an other second XML-File
with examples. Is this possible too?

[NTG-context] Table macro choices?

2009-12-04 Thread Design Department
Earlier this year I attempted to set tabular material using ConTeXt while
meeting *all* the following requirements:
  > Some columns need fixed width, content must wrap to multiple lines
  > Multi-page tables
  > Column headings must repeat on every page
  > Additional header information is required on every page
  > Additional footer information containing tabular text and graphics is
required on every page
  > Forced page breaks on arbitrary selected rows
  > Horizontal rules between specified groups of rows

I was unable to meet all these requirements and reverted to LaTeX. It works,
but I prefer ConTeXt and the LaTeX version takes a painfully long time to
converge on optimal column widths. I'm now using TeXLive 2009, rather than 2008
- has anything changed in ConTeXt that will meet these requirements?

we have this (in mkii):

\def\dohyphenatedurlbefore#1{\discretionary{\hyphenatedurlseparator}{}{}\char#1\relax}%

if you change this to

\def\dohyphenatedurlbefore#1{\discretionary{!}{?}{*}\char#1\relax}%

you'll see that indeed something is inserted

so, something fishy in xetex; maybe a difference in disc handling due to
utf hyphenation? anyhow, we have to live with it

I looked into this for a bit, and decided not to attempt to fix
the handling of such antiquated fonts, as it would really be quite

fontforge to get a modern OTF that doesn't use the deprecated

Alternatively, there is a workaround:

actually, it's not the \startpublication that is the problem as we can
add \ignorespaces at the end, or use tricks that need grouping as they

It depends on settings of TeX distribution.

You can change that in texmf.cnf:
(TeX Live:)
TEXINPUTS.context   = .;$TEXMF/tex/{context,plain,generic,}//
(Minimals:)
TEXINPUTS.context =
.;{$TXRESOURCES}//;{$CTXDEVTXPATH};$TEXMF/tex/{context,plain/base,generic}//

You can overwrite just that variable in your local tree.

I forgot the details, but could probably find it out again. It should
be possible to use ssh tunnelling.

There is also
http://minimals.contextgarden.net/pragma/
but it's not updated too frequently (if there would be a demand, we
could update them more frequently).

But you need to fetch the whole tree each time when you want to update.

is this a bug too?
---
%\chapter{Bla}
\definenumber[PC]\getnumber[PC]
\setnumber[PC]{1}\getnumber[PC]
\incrementnumber[PC]\getnumber[PC]
\incrementnumber[PC]\getnumber[PC]
---
Without \chapter I get: 0 1 2 3
With \chapter: 0 1 1 2

by default counters are reset per chapter and incrementnumber does
the check

Hmm. But isn't it wrong to reset a counter who doesn't even exist
with chapter start? Why not do the same check with setnumber?

well, that's the way it is designed and it has been so for many years

you can also use:

\newcounter\MyCounter
\increment\MyCounter

show: \MyCounter

Re: [NTG-context] bibliography authoryears problem

Here is the cause: the first \cite in mkiv internally runs
\usepublications[\jobname]. This inputs bib-test.bbl, which
contains a \par, and that is where the new line comes from.

A workaround is to add

   \usepublications[\jobname]

in the document preamble.

It works in mkii because in mkii, that command is executed at
\starttext.

For Hans: perhaps \usemodule[bib] should run the command? I know that
is supposed to be obsolete, but I assume you do not want to use the
odd logic from mkii in mkiv.

Best wishes,
Taco
