Was your 10.10 install a standalone distribution, or Ubuntu's
repackaged texlive? If it was standalone, then it seems likely
that 11.04 has installed an ubuntu-repackaged texlive itself,
that is now overriding the correct installation.

If both installs were ubuntu packages, perhaps you should complain
to the Ubuntu people.

Best wishes,
Taco

Hello,
to answeer top luigi, here is the result of the command :
in /usr/share/texmf/scripts/context/lua
mtxrun --generate

In 10.10 it was the version packaged by ubuntu like in my 11.04. But before
reproting the bug to ubuntu, I would like to ask here if there is nothing to
do...

I will try the standalone version if no solution was found here.

mkiv should be used only with minimals;
mkii should be ok with distros, but given that is included into the
minimals, in the end
it's always better to use the minimals .

[NTG-context] ConTeXt for Android?

2011-07-21 Thread Piotr Kopszak
Hello list,

I was wondering if anybody thinks about porting ConTeXt to Android.
Perhaps it wouldn't be as useless as it seems at first sight. Only
after the first month of using an android phone I'm amazed how my
habits changed and how reluctantly I resort to my laptop when I can do
something with my phone (this is not a commercial, amazingly).

[NTG-context] \def vs \define

2011-07-21 Thread Steffen Wolfrum
Hi,

in this example the question mark nicely becomes part of the command name:

\def\OverFull?{\overfullrule30\points}
\OverFull?

here it does not work at all:

\define\OverFull?{\overfullrule30\points}
\OverFull?

(... but gives "??" instead)

As "\define" seems to be more canonical:
Does this result mean it is not recommended to use question marks in command
names?

Can we have this as part of the core and accessible using:

leftframe=on|off|brace|bracket|parenthesis

and similar options for topframe, bottomframe, and rightframe,

or perhaps predefined metapost graphics for setting
background={metapost:leftbrace,metapost:topbrace}, etc (similar to line

Perhaps we can have an equivalent \definevalue that also checks for

MetaPost is the easier choice because we can add more styles to draw also fancy
borders for tables etc.

MetaPost is the easier choice because we can add more styles to draw also fancy
borders for tables etc.

In my viewer (okular), it also looks nicer. With the $\left\{ solution,
one could see tiny gaps between the parts of the brace. I assume this
wouldn't be visible when you print it out, but at large sizes in a
presentation, this doesn't look very nice, whereas the metapost solution
is perfect.

[NTG-context] metapost question (bug?)

2011-07-21 Thread Alan Braslau
Hello,

I have a question for metapost specialists:

I am looking for some sort of effect, built upon a zig-zag line.
The first graphic in the minimal example below is as I would expect.
The second graphic seems to be drawn without the point at (0,0).
(Ignore the asymmetry at the end of the path in the 2nd, this
is to be expected in this minimal example.)

Is the result correct or is this a bug?

Alan

You are shifting by a certain amount : what is the net effect of
shifted point infinity of p0 ?

First you need to be able to compile luatex there.

If you manage to do that, we can help you further.

p2 := p0 & p1;

the reason for the 'unexpected' output is, that point 1 and 2 of the
path p2 are equal. keep in mind that drawing with an asymmetrical pen
has its own (complex) rules.

Thank you -- I forgot about the path operator &

(Funny thing, though, that the problem shows up with point 0. I would also
think that having two consecutive identical points, although poor style, should
not cause problems as it does.)

And yes, the use of an asymmetrical pen is indeed the whole point of this
figure -- I am using metapost to achieve very easily an effect, conceptually
very simple, that a colleague has not been able to produce using Adobe
Illustrator.

Thank you again for helping out.

[NTG-context] footnotes: is this a bug?

2011-07-21 Thread Thomas A. Schmitz

Hi all,

this is something that has made me wonder: am I doing something wrong
here, or is this a bug with footnote placement? Run the attached
example, look at the last 2 pages, 5 and 6. On p. 5, the footnotes run
off the page area. On p. 6, why is there so much space between text area
and footnote area. The reason for this somewhat exotic set-up: our
publisher wanted the footnotes of the last page of every chapter to
start right after the text, not at the bottom of the page. In the end, I
told them I couldn't do it, and they were fine with it. But I still
think it should be possible; I've looked into a number of books, and it
seems a common layout in the humanities. Maybe someone has a bright
idea? (Wolfgang, you answered to this problem 2 weeks ago and suggested
having "aftersection={\setupnote[footnote][location=high]}" in
\setuphead, but this triggers the same problems). So maybe a bug?

All best

Thomas
