Re: [oi-dev] Contribution: How to install Oracle Database 11 R2 on OpenIndiana
Hi Franklin, Rewriting your nicely written article for the Wiki sounds like an awful lot of work and you would lose all that pretty (presumably done with Latex) formatting. It would be far easier for me to add a new tab on the OI-DOCS website for user contributed articles. Here we can simply add the PDF to the OI-DOCS github repository, write a nice little intro summary, and then link to the PDF. I've another article on installing a driver which I should do this for as well. In my opinion, quality articles such as yours would be ideal to help bring attention to our MKDOCS based documentation site. [oi-dev] Volunteer needed to take over the Twitter feed
Hi, I have managed the Twitter feed: https://twitter.com/OpenIndiana in the past months but I will not have time to do so anymore. We need a volunteer to handle this task, at least for a few weeks/months. This news feed is important to update people on the activity of the project and advertise security updates. I have a personal TODO list when it comes to Xorg and compilers (they are mainly packaging and porting bits), and there are other tasks on the menu (to be completed): https://www.openindiana.org/overview/roadmap/ Depending on what is your focus (desktop, server) we can certainly make suggestions. When it comes to development in C, I think Alexander had ideas for improving the Installer, ... there is also better integration of the ZFS snapshot browser in Caja, better integration of Pulseaudio with the OSS4 implementation found in illumos, resurrecting the package manager GUI (Python/C) ... I am also in contact with an Enlightenment developer who is interested in having better support on illumos. I do not have time to work on it myself but this is also a possibility. Feel free to discuss your ideas on the mailing list :) Kind regards Aurelien > > > Let me know your thoughts. > > > > Regards > > > > Cezary > > ___ > oi-dev mailing list > oi-dev@openindiana.org > https://openindiana.org/mailman/listinfo/oi-dev > -- --- Praise the Caffeine embeddings ___ oi-dev mailing list oi-dev@openindiana.org https://openindiana.org/mailman/listinfo/oi-dev
Re: [oi-dev] Asking for opinions
Hi, Since your fix is related to illumos-gate I suggest to read https://wiki.illumos.org/display/illumos/How+To+Contribute > http://illumos.org/books/dev/ > > to get more info about contributing to illumos. > I submitted my first request to integrate very recently and I can confirm that the steps described on the Wiki cover pretty much everything. To summarize the steps: 1) Publish a webrev with your changes using the webrev or the review board [1]. 2) Ask for review by sending an email to the illumos developer mailing list [2], describing the change and how it was tested. 3) When you have at least two reviewers validating the change, send an email to the advocates mailing list [3] The email to be sent for RTI has no strict format, so I looked at previous message in the archives, like the following: https://illumos.topicbox.com/groups/advocates/discussions/Tdf240fa5ca857b39 as described in "5. Submitting A Patch": `git whatchanged`, `git pbchk`, and the mail_msg file should be provided. The only thing that could be clarified is that the review board seems the preferred way to ask for review but its usage is not described much. Nice that you fixed the memory leak, I noticed it when I tested the Valgrind update to 3.12 but then forgot about it :S Thanks! [oi-dev] OI Project
Hello Oi community I was wondering if you guys are looking for contributors. I have been looking for a project to get involved into and I fell in love with Oi ever since I learned of it. Who am I? I am no developer as I am only learning C and would not dare call myself as one. But I am persistent and committed and I would love to get involved in some way, maybe some easy bite-size tasks which would help me along with learning C. Or some other way, something that needs addressing? Let me know your thoughts. Regards Cezary ___ oi-dev mailing list oi-dev@openindiana.org https://openindiana.org/mailman/listinfo/oi-dev
