Re: [Openstack] Computer Science Master's Thesis Topics?
So that's part of scheduling; but likely only a part of it; it depends on the matrix of resources you want to schedule on (just compute node targets, or compute nodes + network resources or ...) If u want, looking at how the filter scheduler works in nova is a good start. https://github.com/openstack/nova/blob/master/nova/scheduler/filter_scheduler.py (prob. also read the new stuff around placement and claims and ...) There has been other attempts at using constraint systems for this: https://github.com/openstack/nova-solver-scheduler https://review.openstack.org/#/c/210549/ was something I started a while ago (read for reference if you want). IMHO there is a lot of research potential and experiments that can be ran, especially if you start to decrease the delay between 'actual resource set available' (what is really being used) and 'predicted resource set available' (ie what the scheduler knows about) [note there there is a eventual consistency problem here]. I'm sure there are bunches of other papers available to, including various ones from google borg and ... So ya, imho a pretty 'fresh' area for things to be messed with... Re: [Openstack] Computer Science Master's Thesis Topics?
Hi Felix! I'm a PhD student at CTU FEE. My own topic was simulation of automatic scaling using both the event-driven approach and queue network modelling. The second part of the thesis was on the prediction of web server workload in time. If you wanted, you could continue and simulate some predictive autoscaling algorithms. The framework is already there, and I have tons of literature on how to continue, but no time, as I'm working in the public cloud industry now. It would also be interesting to extend the prediction, which relies on daily seasonality and do the other approach - short-term anomaly detection. One could also apply performance engineering models to machine learning, to better estimate the length of big data processing jobs. I also have some free practical systems engineering topics from clouds and big data, such as: Compare Hadoop access methods - jump box vs. Apache Knox Automatic server configuration integrated with network management Compare an enterprise disk array with software defined storage Install and benchmark alternate network layers in OpenStack That's about all I have ready at the time. Hi Felix, To complete the Dims'list, you can give a look to the Discovery initiative: https://beyondtheclouds.github.io We (Inria/Orange Labs) launched this initiative a couple of years now and we have several research topics around Fog/Edge infrastructures. Moreover, you may find interesting tools we made to help researcher make scientific analyses (such as EnOs for instance: https://enos.readthedocs.io/en/stable/ ) Feel free to get back to one of us! ad_rien_ - Mail original - > De: "Davanum Srinivas" <dava...@gmail.com> > À: "Felix Fischer" <m...@felixfischer.org> > Cc: openstack@lists.openstack.org > Envoyé: Jeudi 30 Novembre 2017 22:00:57 > Objet: Re: [Openstack] Computer Science Master's Thesis Topics? > > Felix, > > I'd recommend taking a look at what others are doing, examples: > > https://www.flux.utah.edu/pubs > https://massopen.cloud/publicationsandtalks/ > https://www.chameleoncloud.org/talks/ > > Thanks, > Dims > > On Thu, Nov 30, 2017 at 3:01 PM, Felix Fischer > <m...@felixfischer.org> wrote: > > Hey Folks, > > > > I'm Felix and I'm looking for a topic for my master's thesis in > > computer > > science. Felix, I'd recommend taking a look at what others are doing, examples: https://www.flux.utah.edu/pubs https://massopen.cloud/publicationsandtalks/ https://www.chameleoncloud.org/talks/ Thanks, Dims On Thu, Nov 30, 2017 at 3:01 PM, Felix Fischerwrote: > Hey Folks, > > I'm Felix and I'm looking for a topic for my master's thesis in computer > science.
