Are u using code that is calling another servlet? Or is this servlet being called from another one.
Cause if the servlet is being called by another one you'd have to move both over both

EJB Workings Question

2001-10-04 Thread Nusairat, Joseph F.
Title: EJB Workings Question

I am trying to figure out why i am getting marshalling exceptions in preparing hte bean insteance.

And was wondering could someone explain the order things go in so i can attempt to figure out whats happening

Like if i do a set from a servlet to an entity bean

this is what happening when it errors:
Set entity context
EJB Findby PK
EJB STORE
start of set PMMain(in servlet)
Start of setAll(in ejb set)
End of setAll (end of that ejb set)
EJB STORE
EJB LOAD
RETURN of LOAD
Exception:ProjectEdit.savePMMain(): Transaction was rolled back: Error preparing bean instance: com.evermind.transaction.MarshallingXAException; nested exception is:

    com.evermind.transaction.MarshallingXAException
Insert PMMain Returning(return from servlet ... should have had 1 more line after the set)

This is when it is succucessful:
EJB STORE
Set entity context
EJB Findby PK
EJB STORE
start of set PMMain (again in servlet)
Start of setAll (set in EJB)
End of setAll (end of set in ejb)
EJB STORE
End of setAll Call (in servlet)
Insert PMMain Returning
EJB STORE

also no errors:
start of set PMMain
Start of setAll
End of setAll
EJB STORE
End of setAll Call
Insert PMMain Returning
EJB STORE
EJB LOAD
HERE
THERE
RETURN of LOAD
EJB STORE

Any ideas whats going on??

The only thing i can see .. is that it doesnt seem like to do the ejb load in the middle of the setAll call but i cant control that.

Hi Joseph.

Yes, we have seen this.

We found two solutions/workarounds.

Solution 1:
Set the field type to long varchar, and used the oracle 816classes12.zip
file for the drivers (the later ones have a bug in them that won't
handle strings over 2K).

Solution 2:
Set the field type to BLOB or CLOB (Binary/Character Large Object), and
read/write the data as a Stream.

Which solution to use (or whether they will apply for you) depends on
your needs.  For the application I am working on, we are using both
solutions.

I have one app to log the user in ... and I want the user after logged in to be able to have access to all the other apps on there??? And I need access to certain user information to allow that.

U mention using the JNDI however if I do it that way the information won't be specific to users? Will it??? Although I guess i could just make new entries that are. And then use cookies to determine who should get access to it. But man that sucks its much easier with session variables imho.

Any thoughts to the way u all do it?

Hello Joseph,
As stated in an obscure mail long time ago (I coundn't find it in my
folder ;) ) you can share sessions only between multiple instances of
the same app, no between apps.

If you need a central repository for info that needs to be accessed by
multiple apps, JNDI is a good idea.

While I agree they probably focus on the product, they also have an
obligation to support those actually paying to use their product. What I
would suggest is they set up a way to hand out license info such as an ID or
something, and set up an email form that includes the license ID, etc. Then,
respond specifically to those that buy licenses for Orion. This would at
least eliminate their need to try to read and reply to all emails, but
instead only focus on emails from those that have actual licensed IDs. Using
a database, they can even weed out those emails that someone tries sending
with a fake id, or invalid id, name and password (after all..you know people
would try to get a response from them by doing this). Support for free use
of the product I have no problem seeing none of. Support of those that are
paying money and using a product in production, that is a different story.
The deal with Oracle may have made the team some money, but there are still
users paying money to use it as well and they deserve support too.

I love Orion...its a fantastic product at a rock bottom price with almost
all the features I'd want (although I have to say I am really looking
forward to complete EJB 2.0, Servlet 2.3 and JSP 1.2 support). But I have to
admit JBoss with its much larger support and more features and nicer looking
architecture is looking more promising as an EJB server. Orion is still tops
on the servlet/jsp setup, load balancing and performance.

JNDI Question

2001-07-19 Thread Nusairat, Joseph F.
Title: JNDI Question

Hey I was wondering I am running orion 1.5 and I have a few applications that I need to run in a batch fashion at night. They are basic java classes that get scheduled. However I want to pull from the JNDI some of the configurations.

How do I set the environment variables in there to do that
Note: the batch stuff is on the orion server.

Soo ... anyone know what i have to set?

Thanks :)

  Here's the deal,
      I set up and
deploy an ear file and i try to run the associated servlet and i get 500
internal server error. Now the kicker is i have succesfuly deployed some of
  the other beans.
I really have absolutely no clue what i am doing wrong this
  time.
I will spend more monday and disect it.
However does anyone know what i could be missing? Nothing is
being written to log file or in the system.out.println's
I am at a loss ... and trying to figure it out so i never do
it again. (btw i am used BMP bean and a servlet) to
  start it out

Or??? any suggestions

It will be on win2k boxes

No matter what anyone tells you,

System.out.println ("ObjectName:MethodName ():line number");

will work wonders!

In our production environment (win2000), we are using JNT to run Orion as a
service:

http://www.eworksmart.com/jnt/

Works great. One bug is when you issue a stop command, the stop dialog
hangs halfway through, but the service is stopped. Can't beat the price,
free!!!

My question is that how can it work? It seems that JVMI does not support
.JAR files(?).
I've created a .Cmd file (not sure about those scripts, but should do the
same):

REM ###
REM # This script runs OrionServer as a service
REM #

SET JAVA_HOME=c:\jdk1.3
SET ORION_HOME=c:\orion

REM # set up java run-time stuff
SET exe=%JAVA_HOME%\jre\bin\hotspot\jvmi.exe

REM # RunExeSvc variables

SET debug=true# if true, RunExeSvc will show internal status
SET home=%ORION_HOME% # the starting dir of the service

REM # Running as an http server.
REM cmdline=$exe$ (YOUR ORION COMMAND LINE HERE)
%exe% -jar orion.jar

But it does not work:

C:\orion>REM ###
C:\orion>REM # This script runs OrionServer as a service
C:\orion>REM #
C:\orion>SET JAVA_HOME=c:\jdk1.3
C:\orion>SET ORION_HOME=c:\orion
C:\orion>REM # set up java run-time stuff
C:\orion>SET exe=c:\jdk1.3\jre\bin\hotspot\jvmi.exe
C:\orion>REM # RunExeSvc variables
C:\orion>SET debug=true# if true, RunExeSvc will show internal
status
C:\orion>SET home=c:\orion # the starting dir of the service
C:\orion>REM # Running as an http server.
C:\orion>REM cmdline=$exe$ (YOUR ORION COMMAND LINE HERE)
C:\orion>c:\jdk1.3\jre\bin\hotspot\jvmi.exe -jar orion.jar
