Re: .Net based Email Newsletter
Thanks for the input. Both MailChimp and Campaign monitor look good in terms of functionalitybutI'm not sure that our business is going to be happy to hand over 5,000 or so 'customer' email addresses to a 3rd party, no matter how secure they claim to be. I'm definitely *not looking to build*, so is there an equivalent, self-hosted, off-the-shelf product that anyone has experience with? [Note I used 'CRM' in quotes because it's not really a CRM, it's a Student Information System that just happens to also contain a bunch of email addresses for people that we regularly send email to]. Re: .Net based Email Newsletter
Don't worry about the issue of handing over all those email addresses. It's likely they already have them. :) The chances of them having none of the emails you have is pretty low, so you'd be just helping them out by making sure they have an up to date database. Your customers are likely already subscribed to a Mailchimp list of some kind, they are used by many. (Including me). It also handles the unsubscribe option automatically, as without that opt out option in each email, you are legally spamming them. +1 for outsourcing it. Then again if your business is happy for you to reinvent the wheel (or implement a secure wheel) and pay you, then all this is moot. The decision is out of your hands. Spell out the options, apply appropriate bias to your desired option, and away you go. :) My experience of Mailchimp is that they also give lots of feedback on ways you can improve your campaign. There's also built in protection against people using it for spamming. (ie too many people unsubscribing and it will suspend your account. things like that). Its quite mature. RE: .Net based Email Newsletter
If MailChimp isn’t what you’re after, then how about SmartSerialMail http://www.jam-software.com/smartserialmail/ – by the same group that developed/markets a useful utility called TreeSize. It’s not .NET-based (it’s a stand-alone utility), but might be able to do what you want. You would need the Enterprise Edition ($US140) to handle bounces, etc, and to connect to your own SQL database. _ Ian Thomas Victoria Park, Western Australia From: ozdotnet-boun...@ozdotnet.com [mailto:ozdotnet-boun...@ozdotnet.com] On Behalf Of Iain Carlin Sent: Thursday, June 13, 2013 2:41 PM To: ozDotNet Subject: Re: .Net based Email Newsletter Thanks for the input. Re: .Net based Email Newsletter
Also, Depending on what CRM system you have you might be able to integrate it with MailChimp in no time. Mailchimp has heaps of connectors to the most popular CRM systems either directly or through partners shamelesspluglike www.OneSaas.com - my own product/shamelessplug.
