I love it but I'm a lefto pinky lunatic!!! I agree it is not catchy enough
for NMAP but I have filed it in case I ever get the book I started written!!
(1 month before the insurance crisis hit!!).

I always remember Sue Cookson's posting on the origin of the word radical
(from the roots) call me radical anyday!

communism

2002-06-28 Thread Macha McDonald

I think maybe you're confusing communism
with fascism.  A communist, or communism is a social system where people
share goods and services.  A fascist, or fascism is a one party system of
government where there are distinct classes and individuals are inferior to the
state and control is maintained by military force and rigid censorship - quite
the opposite of communism.  When I think of the way I've been treated by
some Obs ("I studied for 10 years in medical school, and you are but a minion"),
and the way they rigidly control a women's experience of birth, I think of
fascism.  Not to undermine your German patients experience, because many
communist societies have failed, but I feel obliged to explode the myths about
communism.  Thats my lesson for the day, and I dont even know how we got to
that, but anyway!!!  Have a good weekend!
Macha.

Isn't that funny - I was telling a woman about how I was treated
during the birth f my sin and what was said and done and her reaction
was this..
"I came out here from Communist germany and that is what you would
have expected there 20 yrs ago - I didn't think that
sort of treatment was possible - Not in Australia, Not in this day and
age."
After that I can only wonder if maybe I was treated worse than
anyone else ever is or if our Ob's are communists after all?

Just something to think about!

I think because of the stigma stuck to communism in our
capitalist society, ppl wouldnt appreciate being dictated to about
Marx, and most would neverhave heard the quote, or even of Marx.
They also may associate us withcommunists, which I dont think is a
bad thing, but others may. I like itthough.-Original

Controlled crying

2002-06-28 Thread JoFromOz

Dear Pinky and Group...
How do you think Pinky's point of view was portrayed on ACA
tonight?? I thought it was fairly good although (as always) it did tend
towards the thought that Pinky is 'alternative' going against the 'experts' but
I loved the answer that the parents are the experts :)

Well done Pinky!!

Jo

  Dear Joy,
This is so sad for you and parents, but
perhaps it will demonstrate to people how desperate the situation is to have
wise women put in this position.
  Best wishes,
  Pinky

Re: Hospital trials birth monitor:Courier Mail news report (QLD)

2002-06-28 Thread Debby M

Just out of interest. My midwife told me about this study.  It is part of a world wide trial that has been going on for some time.
We were talking about fetal distress at the time as I had indicated that if there were suss intermittent readings then I was not happy just to accept normal CTG and had indicated that I would want ph testing to confirm oxygenation before I agreed to go to any more drastic actions for fetal distress.  She indicated that this study involved placing the oxygen monitors onto the baby's scalp in a similar fashion to the fetal scalp monitor but without breaking the babys skin and then if the resulting oxygenation readings were reassuring they would take conservative management of the situation rather than intervene immediately just because of late decels etc.   She did indicate it was entirely voluntary and was not even offered to women unless there was already a suspicion of fetal distress.
I am not a midwife but it sounded logical to me - mostly because my first was a csec for fetal distress (late decels) with no confirmatory fetal scalp monitoring or ph blood testing and when they delivered him (1hr 45mins later) he came out as pink as can be with APGARS of 9 and 10.
