Re: Is it possible to record a voice recording on a Victor Stream andthen transfer it to the PC to be sent as an MP3

2009-01-20 Thread Valiant8086
Hi.
The stream companion which only runs on windows converts the stream's
recordings into wav format, which you can then convert to mp3. To listen to how
good the results of this might sound download the mac demo 5 or mac demo 4
podcasts from blindcooltech.com.

  Hi all,

I haven't purchased a Victor Stream yet, but one of the
reasons I am looking into doing so is that I would be
looking to make voice recordings on the Victor Stream which
I would then want to transfer to PC and send as MP3 files.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

Thank you in advance for your replies.

Hi all,

I have placed all of the MP3 audio files from an MP3 Bible into a
single folder on my desktop. All of the files for the entire Book
are correctly and sequentially numbered and automatically placed in
order in that folder. I hit enter on the first file which begins to
play in WMP. AWhen the first file is done, everything stops. WMP
won't play the next ordered file until I go and hit enter on it.

Question:

What do I need to do to the Bible folder in order to make the
computer's media player play the files one after the other without
stoping - just like what naturally happens when you were to put the
original MP3 CD into your CD drive.

Be thankful,

John

file
conversion, how to add, pauses and change voices within a file, use the
pronunciation editor to change the way words are spoken, and more.

obtain the software, and use it to convert text-based material into an
audio
format which should be pleasing to listen to on a portable player.

Hi.
I think express burn will do this. You could also use windows media player.
Express burn has a limited free version but I think the limitation doesn't
remove the functionality to burn audio cds with it. It's from nch software.

Re: Zen Stone 2GB with speaker

2008-06-30 Thread Valiant8086
Hi.
They work. I've gotten lost in mine before. It doesn't really have menues it
seams, it appears to just have one menu with options to switch to radio
recorder or playback, or adjust some settings not sure what. It always seams
if you get stuck you can keep on hitting the round select button in the
middle until you hear something and go from there. To switch to radio from
mp3 player you hit select once, right twice, select once, and you're there,
the opposit for mp3 player from fm radio, etc.

Re: trying to listen to this station

2008-06-03 Thread Valiant8086
Oh, yeah, that makes sense. Heh I had hughesnet for a while, about, a month.
I switched back to dialup. Heh do you have the download limit there? What do
you think about hughesnet? If I streamed with the service I was paying 69
dollars a month for I could listen to music without buffering. I heard from
a friend of mine using hughesnet now that they hit their download limit by
listening to streaming music. rofl must have been high quality stuff.

Re: Automatic downloading

2008-05-16 Thread Valiant8086 (on laptop)
Hi.
The answer to this is
http://freedownloadmanager.org
free download manager. You can tell it to download all .mp3 files on the sipage
by going to download all from the browser's context menu. You can hit filter
button, type .mp3, then set the combo box to leave files with such extentions,
hit ok, and you can list all the files then download them all.

copy the links from it opened in notepad into your podcatcher. Go to

Well, there's no need to guess, just go to rockbox.org and right on the
front page it says the following with respect to supported players:

• Apple: 1st through 5.5th generation iPod, iPod Mini and 1st generation
iPod Nano
(not the Shuffle, 2nd/3rd gen Nano, Classic or Touch)

I don't use the Nano myself, but based on this I think there are at
least some versions of the Nano that are supported by rockbox. Remember
that Rockbox is a moving target, so to know which players are supported,
go to the source and check the Rockbox web site.

Rockbox does support some lossless (uncompressed) formats. Again, off
the Rockbox page at WhyRockbox,
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/WhyRockbox, it says:

Support for over 15 Sound Codecs, including OGG and FLAC MP3 and WAV.

Obviously, FLAC and WAV are lossless formats. I assume most of the
harddrive based players will support lossless formats, but best to check
if you're going to use the native firmware. The Zen Stone, which is not
a hard drive based player, doesn't support any lossless formats. I
believe the Sansa does support lossless formats, but like I said, if
you're not going to use Rockbox, best to check with the manufacturer's
documentation.

Good luck!

Re: A Question About Ipods

2008-05-14 Thread Valiant8086 (on laptop)
Hi.
If you're trying to use one with rockbox, go to http://rockbox.org and look
for information on which players rockbox supports. If you just want
something user friendly without needing rockbox you can try milestone 311 or
12 coming soon, vi player, zen stone (a really good option), or you can even
use an olympus ds series recorder to play MP3, WMA and I think WAV files.

Hi.
I believe I'm understanding that you have two jacks for 2.1 speakers? truth
be known, there should only be one jack necessary. I believe that if you
have to use two jacks like that with that setup, probably your issue is
getting your sound card to realize that the left channel is plugged into one

Re: QuickKam stx

2008-04-14 Thread Valiant8086 (on laptop)
Hi.
It usually works by itself. Just plug in the device and eloquence will
switch to the external device. Unplug it and jaws will switch back to the
internal soundcard. It doesn't always work like this though. In those cases
restarting the screen reader will help. Sometimes unplugging the device
while software is using it to play audio causes that software to crash, jaws
included (sometimes). It works ok though, and USB headphones seam to do the
same thing, mine do anyway, act as an audio class device. It's useful for a
computer that doesn't have a sound card or has a messed up one.

Re: zen 2gig stone

2008-04-13 Thread Valiant8086 (on laptop)
Hi.
Just so you know, the zen stone is not an ipod. The ipod is an mp3 player.
The zen stone is also an mp3 player. Yes, the zen stone seams to be
workable. I got stuck once but I think if you hit select a whole bunch
you'll eventually find yourself back in the file player portion and you can
get back to where ever you wanted to go from there. Question though, how do
you record? Also, my fm radio sucks in this area, I mean really really bad.
It only picks up one station and that stations, amazingly enough, isn't as
local as another station which doesn't pick up hardly at all, not even when
I'm in town which is where the station broadcasts from, strange. From home
we can hear it but the static is really bad. Any crazy things that can be
done to help one of these things pick up signal?
P.S. , I found out that you can see your battery status by installing
creative media light, it tells you on the status line at the end what your
battery is. Also, you can indeed copy music files onto it with windows
explorer. The only requirement of something else to do the job is for drm
protected digital media. Accessible enough creative media light can do this,
so can windows media player.

Re: sound card issue

2008-04-07 Thread Valiant8086 on laptop
Hi.
The issue is probably that you need to have the microphone loopback enabled.
What you hear records what is being plaid over the sound card. The
microphone isn't being plaid over the sound card, so it doesn't get recorded
when you do this. To get the microphone to play what it is picking up over
the sound card as monitor mode, go to run and type sndvol32 and hit enter.
now that you're in the volume control hit alt+p for properties. Press tab
and hit down arrow till you hear adjust volume for playback. Tab till you
land in a control that lets you select which devices you can opt to be able
to adjust. They'll be like sw synth checked, pc beep checked, midi checked,
cd player checked, phone checked, etc, and one of these is microphone or
microphone/line in, make sure the one for microphone is checked. Press
enter. Shift+tab till you hear microphone volume up down slider. Adjust it
till you think it's right. Tab to the mute checkbox and hit space to uncheck
that, unmuting the microphone, enabling it to work like monitor mode over
the sound card. Warning! Put headphones on or turn your speakers wa down
when you do this. If you tap on your our microphone you'll hear it coming
back simultaneously through the speakers. Now when you record it should work
fine. To adjust how loud the recording through the microphone is when you do
what you hear, adjust the volume of the microphone from the playback volume
page that I just described how to get to. After you've checked to show
microphone there, you've only got to run sndvol32 and press shift+tab a bit
to get to microphone, those either steppes are a one time thing.

Re: making a podcast

2008-03-22 Thread Valiant8086 on laptop
The ds30, 256mb capacity, is about 120 dollars. the ds50, 1gb, just tops
200 dollars. Mine is the ds30. I have filled it up, but all I had to do was
move files from it onto a pc to free up space. You can record for
respectible amount of time with the ds30 on highest quality 192k. The ds
series have speaking menus and are relatively quick and easy to use and
flashy looking and feeling. The ds series have a stereo microphone that
ataches to the top of the recorder. This stereo microphone can be removd and
it will switch to an internal mono microphone that does a better job of
picking up various frequencies but, being mono, doesn't give you stereo
recordings. It has a decently low floor noise. It's not the best recorder
around, one issue I have with mine is when I'm using the stereo microphone
it tends to be a little loose in the jack and rattles and makes lots of
noise in the recording even if i'm being careful to handle the recorder
quietly while recording. A standard microphone can be plugged into it in the
same jack to which the stereo microphone is connected, allowing you to
resort to some other option, be it a clip on microphone for your shirt
collar or be it a headset or be it one of those sets that go on your ears.

Gold Wave causes video problems?

2008-03-21 Thread Valiant8086 on laptop
Hi.
I'm having problems with gold wave. When I run it, it causes dinging noises to
be played when I play a sound. I'm using jaws 9.0. I have the scripts 1.56 or
something like that. They have support for zoom level which doesn't seam to
work very well. They are very sluggish and always want to say no file is
selected when I do something like copy the selection, or say no sound in
clipboard when I go to paste, when there actually was a sound. In addition gold
wave's text interfeers with all other open programs when gold wave is running
and after I close it until I close jaws. Also it seams to be messing up edit
fields like the subject edit field in outlook express aven after that until a
reboot, across multiple jaws restarts. It is very close to impossible to use
gold wave on this xp laptop, and the same seams to be happening even without
the scripts or with jaws8 running. Any ideas? I don't think gold wave on my
vista laptop does this.

Power dvd seams to work nicely too, you could use that. It has shortcut keys
for lots of things and I was able to play an instructional dvd on the spur
of the moment the other day with this alienware laptop.

Hi.
You could just have doctor's dictation go into the computer and have it
mixed in with the other sounds in the sound card. She could hear doctor and

Ok, well I'm very impressed with this editing package and in a lot of
ways I believe Goldwave to be more functional and practical than Sound
Forge ever was or probably is ever likely to be, the layout of the
manual is very well done and easy to get around.
I went to the site at http://www.goldwave.com but I couldn't find a
purchase price anywhere and (to my slight annoyance) it seems that
Goldwave INC won't take paypal but if its a fair price then
I'll save to purchase this.

Right, well I have to say that I'm surprised you need JAWS scripts
with the software at all! but I won't comment further because I took
it off my system in favour of a freely available Screen Reader which
works remarkably well with every application I've run it past thus far
but that's not all that much these days as Windows isn't my main
operating system.

the biggest complaint I have about Goldwave is that the noise reduction
isn't very
good at all. Soundforge is much better in this respect. I used to like the
Diamond
Cut programs for noise reduction too, but for editing files for a blind
person was
and probably still is difficult. if studio recorder from APH had some kind
of
noise reduction, I might have sprung for it, but it is pricy, so if I am
going to
shell out money, I'll buy soundforge again. wavepad does some nice things
too, but
seemed rather limited in what it does do so I quit using it. I thought it
could be
a little easier to do basic editing functions with it.

Re: Sansa E250 seems to have been completely corrupted

2008-03-01 Thread Valiant8086 (on laptop)
Hi.
Is it just the sansa's firmware or do they have rockbox installed. Anyway,
it is possible that the sansa itself is the other program that's using the
files. You may be able to fix the corruption problem by resetting the sansa.
I'm not sure how to do that. It's something tricky like hold down the record
button whilst you turn the thing off then back on but that's likely not
exactly right. I had one of those for like a week. You'll loose everything
stored on the sansa at least by doing the reset I'm talking about which is
the point. Maybe the sansa would call it formatting it. Unfortunately I
can't give specific instructions but I'm pretty sure it's something that may
work.

Re: Can you recommend good ear buds for not more than $100?

2008-02-25 Thread Valiant8086 (on laptop)
Hi.
When I bought my alienware laptop a few months back they sent me some ear
buds with it that sound really really good. The best thing is these ear buds
have a microphone built in, and it works really well too. It's just a small
plastic shape at the point where the wire splits to go to each ear. The
microphone is there and in the same egg shaped contraption there you get the
volume control and a switch to turn off the microphone. It has two standard
1.5mm regular old headphone jacks, one for the headphones jack and the other
for the microphone. I couldn't use it unfortunately since I use hearing aids
and those things just aren't friendly with hearing aids. I wanted to tell
about this so if anyone wondered if they made them with microphones built in
they do.

Hi.
Dang how come you didn't tell me about this. I was talking about converting
a midi file to mp3 the other day but you never mentioned it. Anyway, hope
you're doing well.
Cheers:

Yes exactly, I have a pair here which i use with Itunes on the Mac,
you plug em in and Itunes can take total control of them, they're
actually classed as a Sound Device on my Mac at any rate and I'd
assume the same thing for windows so you can select that sound device
as a default audio output for Windows for example.

Re: Sound devices for the PC

2008-02-17 Thread Valiant8086 (on laptop)
Hi.
I have an x-fi for my laptop but I don't like that one. Creatives are ok in
general, I have an audigy in my desktop and it rocks. The live 24bits are
all right too. turtle beach is supposed to make good high end sound cards.

Hi Dane,

I'm not sure exactly, but I love the connecsant cards. I have one on this hp
pavillion of mine (laptop), and it performs beautifully- and right now there
are no independant volume controls on this card (but I forget what its
called). I'll look into it and see what I can find. I also have a SiS 7018
on this desktop sitting beside me, but its horrible. Don't go with SiS.
Creative are really great; I have an SB live on another of my desktops. I
love it. THe stario mix feature especially, since it keeps the base and
doesn't distort at all, and also unlike some soundcards, when you go to 0
percent, it means 0 percent- and when you put it at 100, most soundcards
I've used distort but don't get any louder- this one really pumps the volume
up and performs spectacularely!

hope that helps;

Have a good day from Tyler C. Wood!

Subject: Sound devices for the PC

Hi everyone!
Ok (as surprising as this may sound to a lot of people) I'm a novice
with the PC technology (or trashbox as I prefer to call it http://www.istore.com.au and looked at the Creative brand,
there's no shortage of sound devices there it would seem but which one
to buy? Should I in fact steer clear of Creative completely and go for
something else?
Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.
As a footnote to this, my Trashbox is approaching its fifth birthday
so I'm wanting something which will be compatible with my current
Trashbox and will be compatible with a new Trashbox which I plan to
purchase in about 6 months all being well. Of course! if the device
should be compatible with the Mac then that's a bonus but that's
something that I don't class as a priority.
Thanks In Advance
