Re: PESO modern photographer

2018-12-15 Thread P. J. Alling
I don't know if you can claim the Old Man of the Mountain.  The whole
area was socked in by fog, for about a month, but the fog had lifted,
just about the time I arrived with some friends at one of the scenic
overlooks.  I shot two maybe three frames with my LX and probably the
M*300mm f4.0 and we drove off.  The fog closed back in for a couple of
weeks.  Next time if cleared the Old Man was gone...

The best part, if you can call it that, were the reports of the natural
wonder's demise about a week later, with the Governor of New Hampshire
proclaiming that he would spare no expense to rebuild it.  I think he
was a bit unclear on the concept of "natural wonder".

The sadist part is that the film, (who's whereabouts have no current
clue), was one of two rolls that I've received back from a processing
lab, with numerous scratches.  Retouching the print was a PITA.

However based on the fact that I may have been the very last person to
photograph it, before it fell of the mountain, makes it my fault.

Yes, that's true, but to my eye, it's quite surreal.   In addition while
the water level on the left looks much higher, there's no size
reference, except for the figures that on the beach to the right, which
I didn't notice until well after taking in the apparent water level
difference which snaps one back to reality.  At least that's how I see
it.  Either that or the drugs I'm taking are a lot stronger than I thought.

I'm able to photograph the place where the concert was.
That reminds me of a NatGeo program about Area 51 (Groom Lake). When
the Lockheed A-12 spy plane was in development for the CIA Radar
Cross Section (RCS) testing was going on at the base. A mockup was
mounted on a pylon for the tests. Because the Soviets already has
some spy satellites and the CIA didn't want the Soviets to see the
mockup they removed the it from the pylon when a Soviet satellite
was due to pass overhead. At first the CIA didn't realize was that
the Soviet satellites could do infrared imaging. The shadow of the
mockup was cooler than the surrounding ground. The Soviets were able
to discern the mockup's outline from the infrared image of the
shadow. Once the CIA learned that the Soviets had an outline of the
mockup they figured out how it was obtained and then instituted
thermal counter measures.

The Soviet photographs showed the place where the mockup was.

Re: OT: Wedding Photographer from Hell

2018-12-15 Thread mike wilson
No coincidence that the most googled "should I.." question in Texas is "should
I apologise?"

I have to wonder what happened to the "male guest"

In a related note, I'm really annoyed at park rangers that kick people
out at the start of sunset rather than at the end.
